Breakfast Topic: A trip to the stylist, part one

Okay, that last part isn't entirely accurate. Or is it?
Anyway, yeah. Hairstyles are important to me, which is why I'm simultaneously happy and a bit miffed about the new styles in Wrath, a lot of which were just copy-paste jobs from other races. Night elf females still have a grand total of two good haircuts and human males can, joy of joys, be Goku now.
So my question to you, dear readers, the first in a series, is this: What are your favorite and least favorite hairstyles in the game? When you see a human male with the Goku haircut or the foxtail, do you want to kill a man? For female troll players, you don't even need to answer. I mean, you have what, two hairstyles anyway? Neither of them any good? Maybe next expansion.
Addendum: And just why do goblin females get all the good hipster haircuts, Blizzard? They can be Tegan or Sara. I can't even be the girl from La Roux.

They are not Gokus, they are Vegetas!
Also - before 'over 9000' jokes.

And I actually forgot to write about the topic itself. I don't like most of the new hairstyles, but some of them are nice. It's an interesting thing that they let different races have similiar hairstyles, but most of them just don't look well (emo draenei...). And all of the new blood elf male ones are horrible. I rarely see anyone using them, but when I do, I'm amazed how people can watch these and prevent their eyes from bleeding. Vegetas are way too popular, and so is the 'old-Wrynn' hairstyle. Overall, I like the classic ones more, but I'm pleased with the implementation of the barbershops. It's one of the best ideas Blizzard had. Of course, improvement is possible (changing the length of your hair, more colours, etc.), but then WoW would change into Sims, so maybe let's stick to what we have.

It's kind of sad you think WoW's ridiculously limited customization is preferable to having some real control over your character, even going so far as to act like it would be the Sims.
Aion says hi, and Age of Conan's insane customization is pretty much the only thing they did -right-.
Raze Nov 14th 2009 9:42AM
I'd take the Sims over the Clone Wars any day.

@Kia
Well, maybe in my vision it went just too far and it's possible to create a balanced one, like in the games you mentioned. Let's hope that Blizz decide to improve it then.

@pietrex: My main is a Blood Elf male, and I use one of the "new" hairstyles, The Kael'Thas one.
It's not perfect, in fact it's very low poly for me. But it's better than being just one of the many "Vegeta elf" clones out there.
Besides, it's friggin' Kael'Thas!!!
Vandersveldt Nov 14th 2009 11:11AM
The reasoning behind the limited customization is that so the game only has to mix and match very few prerendered polygons. This way, it's all already in the cache. Ever go to Dalaran and it takes awhile to load up all the characters around you? That would be so much worse if the game had the customization of a game like Elder Scrolls: Oblivion (which OMG I would LOVE so much....). As good as a feature like this would be, it would just be so much more to load.... so unfortunately we're stuck with just a few options.
PS. When I typed out Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, all I could think of was Kologarn shouting "OOOOOBLIVION"
Hubuly Nov 14th 2009 1:49PM
yeah oblivion customation was amazing for the player for the characters it always freaked me out when I got attacked by someone with the same voice as martin and looked fairly similar to him the only one in the game with their own voice was the emporer at the begining
patrick stewart ftw

I hate the Draenei female hairstyles. They're my favorite race/gender combination (as evidenced by my priest, my paladin, my shaman, and my Death Knight) and my guildies always mock me for having all four have the ponytail hairstyle. It's not my fault it's the only one that doesn't look like there's an animal on top of my character's head.

Amazing Mike... You bring up a really good point and that is the porting of other races hairstyles. I think with Cataclysm they may scale up the hairstyle options because to be honest I don't think they were ready to release the Barber Shop when they did. But I'm sure if they look at how much gold is being sunk into haircuts they will realize how immensely popular this option is. I alone spend about 100g a week keeping my Blood Elf Paladin looking different. My Tauren not so much... Great article.

It's so true. I've spent a shameful amount of gold on changing hairstyles for my various characters. I'd LOVE to have all styles on all characters; I hope Blizz gets around to implementing this...it'd be such a great goldsink.
I am LOVING these girl goblin styles! I reeeaaaally wanna see the cuts for the goblin dudes (since I'm planning to roll one which may very likely take over as my main character). I can't wait!

I hate every male human hair. Trolls too, both male or female.. maybe there's 1 female troll hair I'd use.. Female nelfs have like two decent hair styles.. males too. It's complicated to choose.. I would never use that crazy hair male nelfs (windy or something like that) have or Mr. T Mohawk... I'd love it if they put more styles to choose from.. the other day I made a male Belf and went to see their hair styles and I couldn't believe they had every single male nelf hair but a lot blonder. Belf crazy hair is just awful. I tried to find more hairs for my female gnome and they all sucked too... it's difficult to get the right hair :( those goblin hairs in the picture look pretty cool O: hopefully we will get a whole new set of hair styles with Cataclysm.. more colors too would be nice
splodesondeath Nov 14th 2009 11:52AM
I quite like troll haircuts, although Mohawk doesn't do anything for me. I like the crests, the braids, and the windswept haircuts, and lots of them are still passable. My ideal one would probably be the mix you sometimes see on forest trolls of the crest and the braids. Of course, ideally I would have the same character model as them, so what can I say.
Lexa Nov 14th 2009 8:20AM
I'm happy with my boring-ass braids on my night elf druid - but why, oh why, do only death knights get to have pink hair?! Give night elf females pink hair, damnit!
MusedMoose Nov 14th 2009 8:31AM
THIS. It's just not going to be as fun to be a fire-specced NE mage without pink hair. grr. arg.
McCombs Nov 14th 2009 2:24PM
Yeah, I really would have liked pink NE hair too. My priest had the short hair that has the sort of frame around her face in white. That is until she became a male Dwarf!
Cyanea Nov 14th 2009 5:25PM
Draenei too!
Well..any color except grey, brown, and greyish blue would make me happy.
Deadly. Off. Topic. Nov 16th 2009 11:38AM
Considering they have pink skin and purple hair, it's not a far fetch to give them pink hair too. ..and while we're at it, can we get some outrageous dye jobs for our human girls too? Red, brown, blond, black, grey and white... so dull. I'd like a green or purple for my human.

i care about hair, i dont know why, i care about little other vanity options but hair i do. My human female is pretty ugly i think. Shes in a perma-ponytail because of its lack luster options, not just with cut, but color. its so... blah. I do enjoy my female draenai choices tho. I feel like storm from X-men. Im a giant exotic woman with BIG hair. I think the pony tail option for them looks a bit trashy however. Like, changing to a pony tail on a dranai female makes you look like a chick from girls gone wild...with two knees of course.
