Please bare with me this may get long.
Instanced areas in several zones across Azeroth and even Outland where Guild members or hired peons (1 Time fee for a set number of peons) will collect enough materials within the area to build a Hall, then upgrade it itnto a small City and finally into a Fort. (material collection and construction would take time, few weeks to month or so for full upgrade to Fort)
Hire Mercenaries for extra defence or more peons to collect resources faster or replace the dead ones.
Guild leader can choose to decorate the Guild Base with trophies and such collected via raid boss kills, Achievements, world events and more.
Guilds can build their own stables for customizable guild mounts.
Bases can be attacked at random (PvP servers) or can get invited to test their defences (normal servers)
Im tired and cannot keep my thoughts together, if you would like to add on to what Ive started please feel free too same idea here is somewhere deep inside the bowels of the forums... somewhere.
