Why SW:P and not the other dots?Since Mind Flay refreshes the duration of SW:P, priests could pop all their trinkets and cooldowns, cast SW:P and then keep the dot ticking. It would keep ticking throughout the fight with all the temporary haste and spell power bonus given by the trinkets and cooldowns.Instead of recalculating the stats every time SW:P is refreshed, the devs made it not scale with haste. As misery says, it's an ok solution mathematically, but sad lore wise.

lolwut? Lorewise? Soooo... There's some lore somewhere that says SW:P is affected by haste? OOooookkk...

The sad thing is that this isn't even a new problem. It is the exact same problem they had when they added spellpower to dots. Then, people would stack up misery (remember the "SW:P has to be at least six spells in" days?), pop +spell trinkets, and then keep that SW:P refreshed the whole time. The real question is why they didn't use the same fix on this one (have it recalculate when it is refreshed)?

What I meant was that SW:P is a classic priest spell, devouring plague is not. Plague? Priests attack your mind, they don't deal with plagues and diseases.

I recall from GC's post on this subject that he said the SW:P refresh bug was a hard bug to fix. Sure, I could believe that, however that bug has been there for 5 years. There is no excuse other than, "we still don't feel like fixing Shadow Priests after 5 years, please keep paying your subscription fee, maybe we'll get to the issues they've had since the spec was introduced in this expansion... maybe we won't."Lore-wise, Shadow Priests should really be nothing like how they are in the game... so... pretty much anything goes. They are Priests of the Cult of the Forgotten Shadow that have harnessed the power of undeath to essentially turn themselves into demigods. They learned to consciously control the force that animates their undead bodies and forces reality to allow them to exist. They don't conjure power from the Light, they don't summon Elemental forces, they don't channel Demonic magic, they will the world to change... and it does. As it stands mana makes no sense as a resource for a Shadow Priest, they take what they want from the beings and world around them... so haste affecting SW:P or not... *shrug* whateva.

I would guess that a big reason why this isn't an easy fix is because if you had haste refresh with every tick of mind flay it could get really complex for the program (which is most certainly old) to figure out when to process a tick of SW:P.Let's say that you're a troll priest with a 10% reduction to your dot times who happens to get into combat. What would currently happen is this:[Initial setup]cast SW:Pcast Mind Blast[2.7 seconds have passed. SW:P ticks]pop berserking (that's 20% haste, 1.1*1.2= 32% haste)cast mind flay(.75 seconds pass)Mind flay ticks, SW:P refreshes(.75 seconds pass)Mind flay ticks, SW:P refreshes(.75 seconds pass)Mind flay ticks, SW:P refreshes (that's 2.27 seconds)(.02 seconds pass, SW:P ticks).... Now this works fine until berserking wears off ~7.71 seconds later. In this time we've cast two more Mind blasts, two mind flays and just refreshed your VT. SW:P has ticked three times, (Berserking fades)(~.2 seconds later) Vampiric Touch fades(~.1 seconds later, because you've got timing skillz) Vampiric Touch Applied Cast Mind Flay (with just the 10% haste now)(.9 seconds pass)Mind flay ticks, SW:P refreshes with the new haste.(.17 seconds pass)Now if the haste hadn't refreshed, SW:P would have ticked here.So what happens? Well technically the pain should take out the time that's already passed from the new dot time to tick, but SW:P isn't supposed to tick (under the 10% haste) for another .4 seconds or so. This is probably what is causing the hiccup with the programming. They probably saw shadow priest numbers being too high (I've heard them doing almost 9k dps on the PTR), saw this huge programming leap and decided to fix two birds with one stone. Although, if that were the case, then why Corruption isn't getting the same treatment?

I dont get why they dont just tweak how much all the dots scale with haste instead of picking out just one.

@eisengleYou just made me want to RP a shadow-priest.

"There is no excuse other than, "we still don't feel like fixing Shadow Priests after 5 years, please keep paying your subscription fee, maybe we'll get to the issues they've had since the spec was introduced in this expansion... maybe we won't.""Same could be said for Mages and Rogues. They've been waiting years for a fix to some of their spells and, whilst not directly doing damage, both spells can save the classes ass.

SW:P actually does update its damage to changing Spell Power, just not for any other changing stats, like Haste, Crit, etc. It sucks it had to screw the free mana though, I was likeing being able to consider dropping Dispersion from my tree, or maybe only keeping it for the survivability.
