Wowhead's new item page now even newer
Wowhead has been a go-to site to track what's going on on the PTR for quite some time, and now there's even more reason to go there. Their improved new items in patch 3.3 page features the following improvements:
- Categorization by item level, with breakdowns for the five levels of items that are coming at us (219, 232, 251, 264, and 277).
- You can now filter the new items and search within them.
- Items are also sortable.
And this isn't a new feature, but it bears mentioning, at least if you're a major news geek like me: you can get an RSS feed of the new items added to the Wowhead database. If you wanted to you could probably hook this up to Twitter, or put it on your blog, or whatever.
Anyway, if you want to know what items are coming at us along with Icecrown Citadel, I think there's no better place to be. What items are you most excited about?

IMHO, Wowhead has been THE go-to site for just about anything non-lore for me for WoW, and just about anyone I've shown it to has promptly removed Thott from their favorites. And for lore, Wowwiki is pretty good too.

I reckon sites like Thottbot and Allahkazam were good "back in the day". I use WowHead for two reasons however:
1. It's updated on a regular basis.
2. It's design is extremely user-friendly (I hate Thottbot's design).
In the end, they're all owned the same network anyway.

My one and only gripe with wowhead is that they keep comments from the beta. Speculation about an item/quest/etc high on the page is not at all useful to me. I just want the data from live.

Oh wow, I forgot about Thottbot lol.

Was the rocket hit with a Mr. T bomb?

WoWhead, now with full on Aion advertisements!
But seriously, I've been using WoWhead for good long while and swear by it for anything WoW related.
derbecca Nov 18th 2009 3:37PM
My computer got a virus last month from Wowhead, so I haven't been back since. Has Wowhead corrected the problem? I think it was an issue with one of the advertisements they allow. I'm sooooo hesitant to return since I sure don't want another keylogger or whatever that Virtumonde junk was. :(
Barinthos Nov 18th 2009 3:40PM
Get an antivirus program installed then?
I've also got AdBlock and I never see anything other than what I want to. So if there was an issue it's most likely fixed.

Nope, there are still problems on their site as I was infected 2 days ago. I use a 2nd computer when I'm playing WoW to look up stuff as needed. I was on the Wowhead site and accidentally clicked on an add banner or a link in a comment, not sure which to be honest. Before I could even react I had been infected with Anti-Virus System Pro 2009.
Now, it's partly my fault because I had recently reformatted that computer and had not installed NoScript and AddBlock Plus for Firefox. That being said, people need to be aware that malicious software is still a very prevalent problem on some of our favorite sites.
I had no problems getting that crap off of the computer, but I can see how easy it would be for others to start clicking 'accept' or 'install' on pop up messages on their screen. If you don't remember installing a piece of software on you computer, then don't click the 'accept' button on your screen.
I love WoWhead and will continue to use it daily but I will make sure to have the proper security in place before going there in the future.

I know everyone wants to see the new weapons, so to save you some time, here are all the new 3.3 weapons:

I had McAfee, fully updated, as well as an anti-malware program, Spybot. The trojan still got through (sorry, I should have said trojan in the first place, not virus). I understand that I can run websites without scripts, but I assumed wowhead.com was trusted enough that I didn't need to. I was wrong. If the problem has been fixed, I'll be happy. Until I hear from a reliable source that the issue has been corrected, I'll stay away from the site.

If you are a PC user get Microsoft Security Essentials. It will find and remove many of the trojans, rootkits, viruses that most anti-virus programs miss. It also runs just fine with other av programs. I run avast! and this together and it is boss mert.

Hey, this is Malgayne from Wowhead.
We operate a feedback email at feedback@wowhead.com, as well as a forum for people to leave feedback on the site at http://www.wowhead.com/?forums&board=1. Why are these comments on WoW.com the first I'm hearing about a virus problem? O.o
If there is a virus going around I ABSOLUTELY need to know when, how, and under what circumstances it happened so I can give our ad rotation a thorough scrubbing. I am 100% NOT cool with this and I am freaking out that it was going on and I didn't know about it.
Please send me an email with whatever information you can gather, including what country you're in and about what time it happened to feedback@wowhead.com, so I can kick some advertiser ass and make sure this stops NOW.
Anon Nov 18th 2009 4:06PM
I was very happy to see your comment on here. I have never personally gotten anything from a wowhead.com advertisement. It is very good to see you being proactive about this.
derbecca Nov 18th 2009 4:21PM
Agreed! I'm glad to hear that you guys will be working to resolve the issue. I'll e-mail you from my newly formatted machine. :) I have a friend in-guild whose WoW account was compromised through a trojan he received the same way I did. I'll see if he will e-mail you as well. Thankfully I've got an authenticator so it didn't hurt my gaming.

So the DK tier 10 colors seem to go like this:
251: black with purple
264: black with light blue
277: red with bright green
What about the cooler looking black with yellow, featured on the the Shadowmourne page http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/underdev/3p3/shadowmourne.xml
Anyone know how this works?
Hendrata Nov 18th 2009 4:14PM
Last time I remember, the 5 man IC was going to reward 232 (normal) and 245 (heroic). When was this changed to 219 and 232?
Nick S Nov 18th 2009 4:42PM
I believe it's been as it is all along - 219 for normal, on par with the last-tier Heroic drops, and 232 for Heroic, one iLvL jump up.
