Phat Loot Phriday: Worldcarver
Name: Worldcarver (Wowhead, Thottbot, Armory)
Type: Epic Two-hand Axe
Damage/Speed: 632-949 / 3.40 (232.5 DPS)
Attributes:
- +137 Strength, +136 Stamina
- Improves haste by 70 and expertise by 87. In other words, it's a straight up DPS axe, designed for some powerful hacking and slashing and that's about it. No sockets, just lots of Strength. And the expertise helps out a lot as well.
- It does look good, though. You can't argue that's not a serious looking axe.
Getting Rid of It: Even without a legendary two-hand axe coming in Icecrown, this isn't necessarily best-in-slot for everyone, so you might well be replacing it higher up in Ulduar or in Trial of the Crusader. But when you do, vendors will give you 27g 92s 77c for it, or you can disenchant it into the usual Abyss Crystal.

You might have to roll against ret pallies as well.

And I was thinking that it was arms warriors that like 2-handed weapons, unless it is in reference to the Titan's Grip talent. I dunno, I've never leveled a warrior all the way before.

Ret pallies, Arms Warriors, Fury Warriors, and Death Knights would all roll for this, and should roll for it.

Ahhh, was hoping for Shadowmourne.....
catharsis80 Nov 20th 2009 7:41PM
They already covered that. Plus, Phat Loot is about loot that's already in-game.
That said, this axe, IMO, is the sweetest looking in the game currently.

Wow, nice axe! Sure beats my polearm currently equipped on my DK. (Wraith Spear for those curious, havent gotten marrowstrike to drop in H ToC yet =\). My guild is currently doing 10-man ulduar runs (farthest we've gotten is Hodir so not TOO far in yet), so its gonna be a bit of time until I could green/need on that.
kami Nov 21st 2009 2:33AM
As a DK, why would you want Marrowstrike over Edge of Ruin from TotC hc?
BigFire Nov 20th 2009 9:58PM
Odd that no one have mentioned that this axe is really good for 2 Handed DK tanking. All that Expertise means less dodge and parry by the mob.

Normally I don't get excited just by looking at the pictures in the PHP posts, but this one made me drool.
Joequincy Nov 20th 2009 11:10PM
My DK would love that.

Article fails to mention that this was the best in slot tanking weapon for DKs for a long time. A tank can never have too much expertise with the current gear available in game.

@ Kami: Well... this may sound silly, but I like polearms. Of course if Edge happens to drop for me, I'd use it :)

Can you do a caster staff on some Friday coming up? I love me a good staff!

I don't know what's with all the Haste on 2H weapons lately. It's among the worst possible stat any melee DPS could want, maybe with the exception of Spirit. Yet it shows up at least three times as often as Expertise, which is really really useful.
It's also why people consider Shadow's Edge / Shadowmourne to be itemized so jaw-droppingly awesome: because for once, it does not have Haste on it.
gamefreak Nov 21st 2009 9:54AM
I would have to say that haste on Shadowmourne would be nice. Faster attack speed = more chances to proc and gain that awesome strength bonus.
Omicron Nov 21st 2009 11:08AM
Well, there's more than enough Haste on other gear, to be honest. I consider the two Shadow Axes the by far best itemized DPS twohanders of the entire expansion. Any change at all would make them worse :p

Haste for 2H melee players is bad, but less bad than you may think. It doesn't shorten the GCD so it doesn't do anything for your ability damage, but it DOES increase white damage which is already going to be 30-50% of your total damage so it's a third to a half as effective as some other stat that would increase total damage by a percentage, and doesn't cost as much item budget as those other stats.
Also, for the warriors the extra white damage will mean extra rage for more ability usage and lead to better overall damage; a model that's working well enough that Cataclysm will see rogues and hunters have their energy/focus regen scaled by haste. The same little side effect probably applies to the pallies to some degree, with more frequent procs of judgements and hits of seals. Do DKs get anything like it?
