IgroMir 2009: Goblin gameplay footage
More Cataclysm footage is trickling onto the internet from IgroMir 2009, Russia's huge gaming convention, and there was a beautifully clear (well, compared to what we usually see) video of early Goblin gameplay that merited some attention here. I have to confess; I wasn't initially enthusiastic about Blizzard's choice for a new Horde race, even if Goblins do make sense from a lore perspective. But after trawling through so many videos of their early questing experience in the Lost Isles, I'm sold. Female Goblins still aren't playable yet, but their male counterparts have some awesome casting animations and an incredibly endearing sort of waddly run. They just look so interesting and dynamic doing anything that now I'm torn over which class to roll, although I can't really take their 2H special attack seriously, so it'll probably be a caster-class of some sort. I enjoyed Necrolord_Bob's answer to our poll on which Goblin class to roll: "Priest! Priest of the Holy Temple of BOOM!"
We didn't think that Blizzard would tolerate any Cataclysm footage floating around YouTube for long, but it looks like the earlier Worgen video we posted is still up. That said, don't bank on these (or the related videos) being around for long.
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm will destroy Azeroth as we know it. Nothing will be the same. In WoW.com's Guide to Cataclysm you can find out everything you need to know about WoW's third expansion. From Goblins and Worgens to Mastery and Guild changes, it's all there for your cataclysmic enjoyment.Filed under: Horde, Analysis / Opinion, Machinima, WoW Social Conventions, Expansions, Goblin

Just a note wow.com, there's quite a handful of cataclysm footage filmed from blizzcon up on youtube already, and have been since the 'con.
Blizzard doesn't want people recording the footage for whatever reasons, but I don't think they're that bothered about taking em' down.

I noticed they recycled the running animation of the dwarves, to suit the goblins. To add, the worgen animation is nicked from the Draenei. Cheap..
boatarific Nov 22nd 2009 7:23PM
your seriously complaining that they used previous animations for the basis of new ones? especially in such a big game like this?
also what does your post have anything to do with arbitor's?
burn him, hes a troll!!
Leviathon Nov 22nd 2009 7:29PM
Obviously they use placeholder animations for things that are barely complete.
Arbitor Nov 22nd 2009 7:55PM
"burn him, hes a troll!!"
"Well, what do you burn other than a troll?"
"MOAR TROLLS!!!"
(A cookie of solid gold will be awarded to you upon the *getting* of this reference).
And in response to Johan's comment, yes they did re-use some of the running animations of dwarves for goblins, if you watch them run they do look quite similar (But Worgen, IMO, look more similar to a troll's running not draenei).
But, with Worgen and Goblin playable races being on of the main selling points of the expansion, blizzard obviously wanted something playable at blizzcon.
So, they put together the best models they could in such a short time frame.
These will most likely NOT be the race's final animations (Or model, see beta Belves) as the private beta hasn't even started yet, so stop with ya bitching and be patient.

Do trolls float?
Yes.
What else floats?
Ducks!
Exactly!

You are wise in the ways of science Eli.

Draenei models were originally based on tauren and blood elf models on night elves.
These are early builds. Things will change.

OMG ITS AN EAR!!!
RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!

Totally rolling a goblin shaman. Hopefully Blizz will have cross-server heirlooms by Cataclysm. Love their run.

I think they're bringing that in 3.3

Jump, jump, jump, jumpity jump jump. I actually feel nauseous after watching the second half of the video. Whoever was playing, it must've been his first time playing. That felt really chaotic.
Rotclaw Nov 22nd 2009 8:57PM
I despise "jumpers". I wish Blizzard would make "jump" a skill with a cool down (even a 30 second cool down would do the trick). I swear I actually still see level 80's jumping all over. Why, Jumpers, why!? Is it really that exciting?
RogueJedi86 Nov 23rd 2009 4:38AM
I'm reminded of the April Fools' "evil patch notes" that had this mention:
"Night Elves will now lose a small percentage of experience after jumping."
If only it were true, and for all races.

I wouldn't call those cast-animations "awesome" but I must agree I just got a little more eager to get me a goblin-something.

I am so waiting on Gobbies being playable, I know I will be converting my DK and Paladin over to them from Blood Elves. The DK especially as he is an Engineer, and to be a Gobbie engineer just seems to be the right thing to do.
Arbitor Nov 22nd 2009 8:18PM
Sorry to burst your bubble mate, but goblins can't play paladins.
:(
Jay Nov 22nd 2009 9:13PM
Hmm, wasn't one of the big things for Cataclysm that all races could play all classes? A Gobbie Pally should be as valid as an Undead Druid.
Oh well :(
I hope my DK can be at least.
