Here's some good news for hunters in the next patch that I don't think we've covered on its own yet.
Huntsman's Lodge points out that there are two new types of craftable epic ammo on the PTR for us to load up.
Iceblade Arrows and
Shatter Rounds are both learned by engineers who rep up with the
Ashen Verdict, the new faction to go along with the assault on Icecrown. Both add a whopping 91.5 damage to ranged weapon DPS, and of course they're BoE, so all you'll need is an engineer buddy honored with the new guys. One catch: arrows require Gnomish engineering, and the bullets require Goblin engineering. Interesting choice by Blizzard, but it shouldn't be too big a problem, especially since mats are pretty cheap anyway (two
Crystallized Shadow for the arrows and two
Crystallized Earth for the bullets).
Sounds good to me. Still no sign of
those great ammo plans we heard about way back when, but more damage (especially some so relatively easy to get) is never a bad thing.
Patch 3.3 is the last major patch of
Wrath of the Lich King. With the new Icecrown Citadel 5-man dungeons and 10/25-man raid arriving soon, patch 3.3 will deal the final blow to Arthas.
WoW.com's Guide to Patch 3.3 will keep you updated with all the latest patch news.

I'm the only engineer on my raids, 99 percent of the time. I'm a gun-using gnome engineer dwarf hunter (and thus unlikely to use a bow unless it's massively better, thanks to my racial).
Ugh.
Eli Nov 23rd 2009 5:47PM
Luckily for me, I am a gun-toting gnomish engineer, with a bear tank guild leader who is a goblin engineer.
That being said, I still hate the specialization requirements. All they're trying to do is make ammo more valuable.
I guess I'll be able to... sell the arrows I make to buy bullets?
Ringo Flinthammer Nov 23rd 2009 6:05PM
At least previously, you could hand in bullets to an NPC to get arrows.
Eli Nov 23rd 2009 6:16PM
Those were for the veeery old adamantite bullets; the Pre-BC ones, I think they are. They might've been BC though.
Ringo Flinthammer Nov 23rd 2009 8:12PM
They were thorium, so pre-TBC.

Is it just me, or does it look like that hunter is fishing an elemental?
Al Nov 23rd 2009 5:55PM
It does now.
devilsei Nov 24th 2009 10:38AM
Yeah, I want to know where he learned to do that...
The last time I saw fishing good enough to beat an enemy it was Biggs the cat beating the final boss by throwing his fishing line inside it and pulling out a frog...

Far too easy to see Engineers being douchebags on this one.
"Lol, ammo at 2x Crystallized X per 1000? Sure, that'll be 20g fee a stack, lol!"
Yeah sure. Asshats. :/
danielmarcel Nov 23rd 2009 6:00PM
If you don't like it, go back to Russia.
z Nov 23rd 2009 6:12PM
Uh huh, and the engineer next to him will do it for 16g, and the next one for 10g, and so on until they're paying you for the privilege of making ammo.
If you don't believe me, watch Enchanters in trade some time.
Valt Nov 23rd 2009 7:48PM
Engineers making money? UNPOSSIBLE!
Seriously if you look what can engineers do to make money at 80..
uuh...
-Tank gun that will get you 10g tips if someone hardly ever gonna want them? woo.. putting them to AH at decent price takes time so you only lost money when it sells. (no one wants dps gun anymore cos its plain useless)
-Ammo that hardly sell for some reason
-and umm...gnomish army knife! Oh wait no one buys that.
Ringo Flinthammer Nov 23rd 2009 8:14PM
Any engineers still worrying about making money off the profession need to be introduced to the concept of daily quests.
epicboyz Nov 23rd 2009 6:39PM
what pisses me off the most is the fact that apperently the best ranged weapon is a cross bow followed by a bow... I've been using guns and only guns sence lvl 15 cuz i could make my own ammo as an engi. now im forced to go gnomish AND use weapons i dont like just to stay competitave.
Ringo Flinthammer Nov 23rd 2009 6:44PM
It depends on your race for most tiers. If you've got a racial bonus to guns or bows, that makes a real difference.
Dalixam Nov 23rd 2009 7:00PM
I prefer bows and have used that since level 1 up to 80 and then had to switch to guns for the first time since the best ranged weapons were guns. I hated it, but I got used to it.
Dalixam Nov 23rd 2009 7:04PM
Didn't Blizzard at one point state that there would be no new ammo in Wrath?
When they made ammo pouches/quivers obsolete and made ammo stack to 1000 didn't they say they wouldn't be adding any new ammo and instead they made all new ranged weapons do more dmg to make up for the fact that we had to use 'old' ammo?
Al Nov 23rd 2009 7:27PM
Well yeah, Blizzard say a lot of things.
y2fatboy Nov 23rd 2009 8:29PM
They did indeed say that, and I was wondering the exact same thing. I guess the bows and guns were deemed as being too powerful to justify another buff...
Still, as the poster above me put it "Blizzard say a lot of things".
Aceman67 Nov 23rd 2009 8:59PM
Its nice that us Engineers are getting something that will actually make us some decent cash for a change, but how about some love for the other things we can make, like a new Epic Profession Helm that can meet up with at least the T9 Helm, or a new Gun, something to keep our profession competitive with the other cash cows.
