Here's some good news for hunters in the next patch that I don't think we've covered on its own yet.
Huntsman's Lodge points out that there are two new types of craftable epic ammo on the PTR for us to load up.
Iceblade Arrows and
Shatter Rounds are both learned by engineers who rep up with the
Ashen Verdict, the new faction to go along with the assault on Icecrown. Both add a whopping 91.5 damage to ranged weapon DPS, and of course they're BoE, so all you'll need is an engineer buddy honored with the new guys. One catch: arrows require Gnomish engineering, and the bullets require Goblin engineering. Interesting choice by Blizzard, but it shouldn't be too big a problem, especially since mats are pretty cheap anyway (two
Crystallized Shadow for the arrows and two
Crystallized Earth for the bullets).
Sounds good to me. Still no sign of
those great ammo plans we heard about way back when, but more damage (especially some so relatively easy to get) is never a bad thing.
Patch 3.3 is the last major patch of
Wrath of the Lich King. With the new Icecrown Citadel 5-man dungeons and 10/25-man raid arriving soon, patch 3.3 will deal the final blow to Arthas.
WoW.com's Guide to Patch 3.3 will keep you updated with all the latest patch news.

I'm a raiding hunter, and I get my ammo from my Gnomish engineering warlock alt.
When I first saw that it required honored rep, my reaction was "Well, !@#$..." since my warlock's gear is abysmal. Then I thought "Well... I SUPPOSE I could farm triumph badges when 3.3 comes out, then pug IC... Even if the pugs don't get far, at least I'll get rep."
Then I saw the specialization restrictions, and began to curse whatever idiot thought that was a good idea.
I'm currently using the gun from 25-man Ony. Chances are unlikely that I'll be getting a bow/crossbow that's better. Therefore, I'm SOL for providing my own ammo. -_-

wtf thats dumb. You mean Trolls have to go Gnomish and Dwarves have to side with Goblins? Why can't it be the other way round ...

I hadn't thought of that. Good point.

This is inane. The new ammo, that's nice. And I've got no problem getting the rep, I'm a raider. No my problem is with the specs. Now, my hunter is a BElf, so there is no problem with switching weapons, but why should I have to respec every time I get a new weapon, or take it up the bum from the AH. No thanks, I'm sticking with the current ammo.

I can't figure out who would think spec restrictions on ammo are a good idea. You have the other craftsmen who can make all new patterns/plans regardless of spec, people who will be, for the most part, dealing with 1 or 2 time customers and who typically choose a spec based on what's most useful to them, while engineers who need to keep a constant supply of ammo for themselves and/or guild mates and choose a spec based on which has the most interesting "toys" are relegated to making one or the other even though there's every likelihood that they'll need to make both to keep everyone they usually craft for supplied? Totally illogical.

I'm pretty sure the materials requirements for the bullets and arrows will do up...hopefully nothing crazy like titansteel bars, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Titanium Bars being required since the Saronite Razorheads and Mammoth Cutters require Saronite Bars. With the removal of the cooldown on Transmute: Titanium I'd imagine that the price won't be horrendous as it could be.
@t0xic - Goblin Engineers are all about the *BOOM* so it's only natural that they'd make the ammo that has explosives in it...Gnomish Engineers just get the leftovers. ;)
My guild has a a couple of each flavor of Engineering spec so we'll be fine with our Hunters' ammo needs once we hit Honored with Ashen Verdict.

With this, there is an unliited supply of arrorws or bullets right? After reading may posts I got got impression that some people were thinking these need to be re supplied? Its like an ammo trinket?
So you can either make or buy one of each and you will never have to buy ammo again.
