Blizzard celebrates the WoW anniversary

The picture gallery included with the piece is a good browse, too -- you can see all of the Blizzard heavyweights hanging out together, and the great spread set up on the campus. The Register's also been asking Blizzard about their memories of the game -- they've got more memories from Samwise, launch day stories from Shane Dabiri, and some thoughts from Pardo and Frank Pearce (who, strangely enough, at first didn't believe that Blizzard belonged in a hardcore niche market like MMO gaming -- he didn't want to make "a game that never ended," he says). All good stuff. Congrats once again to Blizzard on five years, good to see they celebrated in style.

Those are the employees that are being treated for lunch.
If you think state and government employees have a great benefits package think again. Blizzard spoils their employees and gives them great benefits at the same time.

Having worked in private and public sector it really goes both ways. Right now I work for the state, and we get a lot of perks and parties like this (since its a college).
I've worked for private companies where I've had to work over the thanksgiving weekend.

The big guy needs to be kited to the salad bar
snowleopard233 Nov 24th 2009 4:27PM
That was kind of mean, but then again, you typed exactly what I was thinking with a WoW joke throw in for good humor. An upvote to you, my friend and everyone should remember to eat their salads!

Don't be surprised when all your toons are gone when you log on next.
Skonged Nov 25th 2009 9:30AM
The other big guy needs to be sapped before he reaches for another bisket.
cuchulayn Nov 24th 2009 4:23PM
I see they're drinking Newcastle Brown.
I have a toon named Newkybruun.
I think I'll raise one for Blizz tonight. :-)

I wanna be there
Only because it looks sunny and warm... Not foggy and freezing like it is here.
Netherscourge Nov 24th 2009 4:30PM
wow - talk about cheap.
With the gazillions of money they made on WoW, you think they'd be able to fly everyone out to Vegas for a weekend and rent a whole floor of a Hotel/Casino to party in for a couple days...
No, no - instead, they get a couple tables and burners with food trays set up in a parking lot...
LOL
kooda Nov 24th 2009 4:38PM
Activision made them do it.

Grats to Bliz on 5 WoW years. Who know's what will happen in another 5, but if Blizzards up to the task, I'll be there to play.
ooh...Is that Moist Cornbread I see at the end of the table?
thorie Nov 24th 2009 4:38PM
Cheers to Blizzard. They're now 1/4th of the way completed with WoW!
yeah thats right, they still have 15 years with this puppy before I'm finished.
cowy Nov 24th 2009 4:38PM
I want to be there, and I can't even eat any of that buffet food (Specialized allergy diet).
It just seems like an interesting spot to spend a few hours. Chatting to WOW employees has to be better than what I ususally do all day (boring droll life that I have).
PodPeople Nov 24th 2009 4:48PM
Ah, company "picnic" lunch in the parking lot...I miss SoCal where you can do that sort of thing all year round. I think we found out exactly why 3.3 did not drop today.

Uh dude, that took place last week, not this week. They weren't boozing instead of patching, regardless of how amusing that thought is. For one i suspect that its simply not 100% ready, for two they probably don't want to release a major update considering many of their employees will be gone for the holidays, means less support, and lots of unhappy customers when crap breaks and it does not get fixed.
PodPeople Nov 24th 2009 5:47PM
Uhh Dude, I know full well why they didn't patch 2 days before thanksgiving, the comment was meant as a joke, but I suppose that got lost on you somewhere. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that they don't want to release a major patch (regardless of it's "completeness") right before all their employees are going to be on a long, big traveling, holiday weekend.

Rofl this and the toon models prove it. No women work at Blizzard....
AmazonLily Nov 25th 2009 12:06AM
Hmm, that's weird, I see plenty of women in the pictures on the OC Register website's gallery of the event. :P
