Breakfast Topic: What do you do when your server is down?
The players on the Emberstorm and Whirlwind battlegroups have had a rough week. A massive power outage, huge network issues and other problems have forced them away from their virtual homes to find refuge elsewhere. Some have joined the It came from the Blog guild on Zangarmarsh, where we have had two impromptu server outage parties. The picture above is from Tuesday night's shindig.
Others have commented in the outage posts that they have formed level 1 raids on other servers. And of course there are other games to play.
Personally, if both Zangarmarsh and my main server are down, I figure it's time to start watching what's on the DVR and knitting. What do you do when your server is down?

If the last two days have taught me anything, its that when peoples servers are down they come to my server and bitch about it in trade chat. All.... day..... long.....

Not only that, but I've noticed that when servers go down, they find the first RP realm and annoy the first 100 rpgers they can find.

Yeah, I could have told you that within the first month or two of owning WOW.
Seriously, don't these people have anything better to do? No, I guess not. When they have nothing holding them back, their true nature comes out.
Who knew it was a jackass?

I have to agree with Deadly. Earthen Ring trade has been full of 'guests' taunting the whole server. Classy.

Luckily and unluckily, Moon Guard couldn't be distracted by those bastard role-player griefers (seriously, why the hell do they feel to need to mock something they don't even understand properly?)... because we're in the Emberstorm battlegroup.
Many people actually went to the Illidan PVP realm and RAIDED HOGGER BABY. I didn't take this pics but there's over 200 of the damn things of the "event" of sorts.: http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=ed58bedbfb3e29441f8e0fff488e27e0697e6237e8f5ca5016f8cf40558950b4

one of my favorite things to do is roll a horde toon on another server and attempt to get the explorer achievement. Another cool thing I try to do is to travel to goldshire, watch a duel while stealthed and while an 80 has 1 health after a duel I go in and attack. Usually doesn't work but when it does...man.

Sometimes I play Rock Band (the DLC is released on Tuesdays; coincidence?), sometimes I do homework, sometimes I go for a walk or ride my bike, sometimes I read, sometimes I just go climb a tree. I simply do whatever is second on my list of "What do I feel like doing today?" WoW is not SO important to me that my life starts and stops when my server is up or down (respectively).

Totally agree ill usually just read or play on the xbox.

Sleep, play Borderlands, watch whatever people are streaming on Justin.tv, check my Google Reader, scour YouTube for funny videos. Or, if the timing is right, play a beta for a certain sci fi MMO.

Avan Nov 25th 2009 8:13AM
I make, and then eat, pancakes. With bacon and eggs.
Most Tuesdays are pancake days.

I always end up having a go of some game I was previously into, like unreal tournament 2004, teamfortress, guild wars, either that or I try something like eve or some other game that I've considered playing before. I tell myself that I'm going to have to play these games more, that they're pretty good (and with the older games, I've forgotten what I'm missing). Then wow comes back on and I forgot about them all :) .

During Tuesday maintenance I'm at work, so no problems there.
If it's unscheduled downtime while I'm at home, there are lots of other things to do. Play other games, play a musical instrument, watch a movie/tv, read a book...
Or, of course, there's always going outside and interacting with some people face-to-face. Can't neglect those, even when servers are up!

I've tried, but real life ppl think its strange when i try to trade them trinkets and doodads for gold.
Hey, I killed these 5 squirrels, don't you want to take them off my hands and give me money?
Usually just get looks...or arrested.

I make a real life macro, usually something like this:
/castsequence Do the Dishes, Get Properly Dressed, Go Outside, Take the Bus To Other Side of Town, Hearthstone, Eat, Log on to World of Warcraft
then repeat that til my server is up again. Also I might start a new character and make myself believe that I'm gonna level it to 80, but usually I end up in the new servers tradechat wining.

I have a friend who LARPs (Well, a lot of friends who LARP, but only one who does this) who keeps his hands busy by doing the awesomest knitting variant of all - making chainmail. It's cheap (two pairs of pliers and a box of washers from building supplies stockists), and the easiest way of getting chain that fits you well is to make it yourself.

I'm on Cairne which is part of the Battlegroups with issues this week. Some of my guildies have played on the PTR. I read or catch up on the DVR or do stuff around the house.
themightysven Nov 25th 2009 8:22AM
I knit as well.
or sleep.
depending on the time of day.
Arivia Nov 25th 2009 8:22AM
I'm levelling an alt on another server in preparation for having some fun with a rl friend after exams are done.
