One Boss Leaves: King Dred chomps Herald Volazj

The heat's on in the Two Bosses Thunderdome -- not only in the ring itself, as competitors slash, cast and bash one another on their way toward the final matchup, but in the comments too. How will style balance substance? Who can make the best case for a victory? This week, the votes pointed to King Dred. The great devilsaur raked opponent Herald Volazj 50% to 46%.
Spectators who sided with King Dred put their faith in his sheer power. "... I think this one will have to go to Dred," observed Psiwave. "I'm a Herald fanboy (Lovecraft FTW!), but the herald is punching at mist here. Dred runs on pure instinct: no doubts, no regrets, just hunger."
But plenty of readers believed Volajz's tricks would carry the match.

So, yeah, Dred blows through his own set of clones ... Why look, four weakling copies of my minions! CHOMP CRUNCH NOM NOM. But he then has to face a clone of himself for each add he's summoned, and these clones have all of his abilities. He's stupid, so he'll have summoned a bunch of adds. Remember all those bleeds everyone says Volazj has no way to counter? Dred is equally helpless to counter them, and he's going to have a set from each clone he has to kill. The relative weakness of the clone doesn't matter ... all they have to do is raise their claws. Honestly, I doubt he'll make it through Insanity #1, and if he does, he re-enters the fight with three to five sets of his own bleed effects. The worst he can do to Volazj is one set. If, as instructed, we assume comparable damage output in terms of basic slugging, Dred's health will bottom out a whole lot faster then Volazj ... and that's without even looking at Insanity #2.
catharsis80: My response to this is further up on this page of comments. In short, remember that any melee can SOLO ALL the Insanity spawns. They're weak. Now think about King Dred. Yeah.
Granted, the idea of the Insanity spawns applying the bleed effects is a good point. However, the spawns are really weak, and I highly doubt Dred would take enough damage from the weaker bleeds before Vol will take his full health amount in damage from Dred Prime's bleeds.
Clydtsdk-Rivendare: Vol's Insanity adds are only weaker than you because if they were the same strength you'd wipe easily. Lorewise, the strength probably remains the same, and thus Dred plus four or so of his own bleed effects goes down sometime during insanity #2.

Agreed. If you take game mechanics out of it and just look at the story, it's pretty elementary. Flaily tentacles versus big honkin' teeth.
I know some of you are saying, "But.. but... he doesn't just eat PCs in one chomp, why would he do that to Volajz?"
The answer is easy. If your steak stabbed you with a knife every time you tried to bite it, you might not chomp down so quickly. However, if you have a big plate of calamari (and really, I recommend everyone go check out the recipe I posted in the original thread) that has no knife... you'd dig right in.

Yeah, T-Rex = huge dinosaur, who's designed for killing, and nothing else.
According to WoW lore, Dinosaurs weren't created by the titans, NOR affected by the old gods. The Titans didn't place Dinosaurs on Azeroth, they (Like Trolls and Tauren) were there to see the titans place thier creations on the planet.
Thus these Devilsaurs have evolved over the course of millions of years to be killing machines.
Voljaz was (likely) created by the old gods to corrupt, and I doubt a Dinosaur is going to be corrupted. So it'll likely go down to a good old fashioned melee brawl, in which case I'm taking the "machine" that has been created for the sole purpose of killing over the course of millions of years. Maybe of Voljaz didn't look like an elephant I'd be more inclined to take his side, but considering in the animal kingdom a physical brawl usually goes to the larger animal, or the animal that has evolved for killing (both of which the devilsaur appears to be very good at) I'd say the Devilsaur would take a few chomps out of Voljaz and it would be over.

Yea, I didn't read that they allowed Dred to summon his adds until after I posted the previous comments, but Volazj couldn't have possibly won with Dred's Grievous bite.

Hmm, only thing is that if we're classifying King Dred as a dinosaur and going off of what he supposedly copies he's actually not a particularly good predator.
Although the Tyrannosaurus Rex was a large, very toothy dinosaur, its lack of any respectable arms indicate that it was likely a scavenger, not a predator at all. Their long tails were likely used for running, as a counter-balance, and they would have only rarely stood up straight. Also, due to their large mass they'd be physically incapable of using their lower claws as anything more than foot support. This is a creature that lived more off of what other, mostly smaller, dinosaurs killed...rather than doing it themselves.
Intimidating? Heck yes! Top predator? Debatable. Personally, I'd run from the raptors faster than from Dred. Not only are they fast, vicious and capable of using any of their four claws or jaws as weapons, they also hunt as a pack, indicating some level of intelligence greater than a T-Rex's solitary scavenger state.
Win? Goes to Dred's raptors, who allow King Dred to tackle the Herald, before tearing into him themselves, stacking their bleeding effects together to take down the hurt T-Rex. Twice the meat for the pack!
