Breakfast Topic: When will you quit playing WoW?

I think likely it would be a slow death. I'd log in less and less, until I found that I wouldn't log in for months at a time. At that point I'd probably be sensible and cancel my account -- although it took an inordinate amount of time for me to cancel my EQII account where I did more or less the same thing. I'd like to think this is how it'd go at least, I wouldn't want to quit in a huff over some silly bug or class change.
Of course, this is WoW, and I find myself uniquely invested in it. I've got characters with hundreds of days worth of /played on them, and I don't know yet if I could ever stop myself from being able to have immediate access to them. They are a hobby, and investment, just like a detailed model airplane or schooner. Then there's also what I do here, which gives me a little unique reason not to ever unsubscribe.
But alas, it might happen one day. And that's the topic of today's breakfast nook discussion. When will you quit playing WoW? How will you go out? With a bang or a whimper?

No idea when/if I will quit WoW -probably only when it gets shut down
Of course before that time I'd get figureprints or posters of all my favourite characters to remember them with.
As far as I can remember Blizzard said their other mmo will be much more casual - I'm thinking something like farmville, just MUCH better instead of something like WoW with less raiding/arena focus

I've wondered that myself. I started playing WoW just a little less than a year ago, and it's been a huge help to me as something relaxing and fun to do to take my mind off stress. It's not been the best year for me. Around the same time I started, my girlfriend broke up with me, which I'm still struggling with 11 months later. Coupled with that I had lots of stress from writing my thesis and graduating, and now I'm working on applying to graduate school. It's been a very hectic year, and WoW has done a fantastic job to help bring some stability into my life and give me an outlet to have fun.
I think as long as I'm in this point in my life, I'll be wanting to play WoW. Maybe once I get back into school, or when I get into a new relationship (if I get into one, if I'm being particularly pessimistic), my priorities may shift enough that I won't feel quite the need to keep playing.

I honestly don't know when I'll quit. I'm a huge fan of the KOTOR games so I fully intend to give Star Wars The Old Republic a try when that comes out, but I'll have to see whether SWTOR or Cataclysm entertain me more.

I take breaks from WoW but I always comeback. Hell recently I was thinking of quiting for good, then the Cataclysm trailer shows up and I remember that blizzard always know how to get me back. So the only time I will ever stop play is when I can't play whether that because I am physically unable to or the game is no longer there that is the only way I see.

ill stop playing when Blizz stops adding raiding content. i have 4 years and over 200 days /played in my main. its cheaper than a date i might not even get laid on, its the cheapest hobby i have (musician is an expensive hobby) and its the funnest thing ive ever partook. im too immersed into lore and still having too much fun despite all the hunter nerfing of years past as well as present. sure there are disappointments, but where in life isnt there? for me the pros still outweigh the cons, and until that changes AND theres nothing left to raid, im here to stay.

I would quit if they had a major problem with the game and did not address it quickly. They were very close to losing me permanently when the whole "Additional Instances Cannot Be Launched" problem left me playing a broken game for a few months. My subscription was about to expire and I only renewed because they credited some time and addressed the root cause only a few days before I was going to call it quits.

I will definitely take a break when D3 comes out. I am waiting for that already for a long long long time. I loved D2 in battlenet and hope to connect to this experience again.

i'll quit when the mounts don't cost 20349203492 gold and i don't have to walk uphill both ways and if they ever fix wall walking and when hunters can't volley a single target for maxdps and when .. wait... what?1? it HAPPENED? /RAGEQUIT
morkuma Nov 27th 2009 8:47AM
fine, when mr t becomes a character in the game, i quit!
Eli Nov 27th 2009 9:46AM
Hunters can single-target volley for max dps?
On the server I come from, volley only gets me 2100 damage per tick, and that's an unbuffed crit.
sooo...
where are all these ideas about overpowered hunters coming from?

I'll quit when a better game comes out. I'm seriously hoping it'll be Blizzards successor to World of Warcraft, having tried one or two, three or four, other products and yet never wavering in my enjoyment of WoW.
However, MMORPGs seem to be a tricky, fickle, business and their creating a follow-on is no guarantee it'll be a success, albeit it'll have better odds than most.

My deployment to Afghanistan was a guaranteed quit...
but only for a year.

I came from the first person shooter world, and after seeing WoW PVP for the first time, I was sold!
I think if more gamers actually knew how BG's worked, and world PVP, the wow audience would increase even more!
Gotta get past the wow stigma though, all who play are obviously overweight, and live in a basement at the parents house.
I have no plans to ever leave WoW, it is seriously the best meshing of all game genres into 1. Sorry for sounding like a fanboy, but the game is just so good!
All things considered, they (blizzard) do a good job balancing the game, and making it fun! I just hit 80 on my first character 2 weeks ago, and its been a blast! I cant believe I didnt start playing earlier, actually.
If WoW had a better AD campaign, that actually showed gameplay footage and how beautiful the world is, they would increase the number of subscribers big time. Mr. T and mohawks isnt exactly drawing people into WoW.
All's it would take is a short description of how the game works, with some action esq scenes.
Anyways, sorry for the useless blabbing, in short, WoW is awesome! And a big TY to this site for teaching new players about this vast, awesome world that is Warcraft!
/applaud :)
