I have to say I'm curious about where you're getting the 3,000 DPS loss figure, because unless EJ is completely out to lunch, even an MM hunter should only lose about 12-15% DPS by substituting Scorpid Sting in the rotation. The loss for Surv appears to clock in around roughly half that, 6-9%, with a relatively insignificant loss for BM (although very few serious hunters raid BM). Assuming you're MM and losing the maximum possible DPS from substituting Scorpid, that still clocks in at around a 1400 DPS loss rather than 3K. Balance can more easily afford the DPS loss from unglyphing Insect Swarm if you *do* have a moonkin in raids -- I think it works out to around a 3-4% DPS loss. No reasonable person is going to argue that forcing a Balance druid or MM/Surv hunter to provide the 3% boss +miss chance isn't a significant DPS loss, because it most certainly is. The point is that on encounters with insane tank damage (Gormok being the one under discussion, and possibly the sole encounter in present hard-mode raid content where this is really a necessity), a 3% penalty to the boss' ability to hit them may keep tanks from getting gibbed when it matters. A raid doesn't have a leg to stand on asking you to use Scorpid Sting on farm content or on a boss without devastating melee. ToGC-25 Gormok is not one of them.
