Hmm I would definitely go for the flag even if you dont have any nodes capped! I would do this because if they have 3 to 4 capped... why let them turn the flag in and get ahead even quicker.. Better to grab the flag and hide with it lol.

The thing is, you can't hide with it. When you grab the flag, you'll be visible on the map. It's a pretty futile effort.
