Around Azeroth: The wild blue yonder
West was determined to get the best spot in the house for viewing the Thunder Bluff fireworks, even if it meant getting up at sunrise to stake out his territory. The drawbacks of this plan only became evident when he was pushed off the cliff by a pack of stampeding tauren looking to bask in the warm rays. Should've stuck to those towers in Silvermoon.

Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@gmail.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. Please include the word "Azeroth" in your post so it does not get swept into the spam bin. We strongly prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use alt-Z to remove it. Please, no more battleground scoreboards, Val'kyr on mounts, or pictures of the Ninja Turtles in Dalaran. Tauren? Only if they like dwarves - this is the spot above Ironforge where there are the remains of a mountaineer (and it's also sunset, sorry).
Still, interesting shot, and interesting question - how did he get up there?

There are more ways then one to do that. But i agree, odd place to be lookin for Thunder Bluff fireworks.... serves him right for getting pushed off the edge...
But hey if it was tauren and a gnome, i think we just found the best place in azeroth to go Gnome punting.... just imagine the distance you could get up there

You need slowfall of some sort. Go to IF's graveyard, cast slowfall, mount up, run and jump off the edge towards the distant hill to your east. You should land. From there, it's simple mountain maneuvering.

Actually, you don't need slowfall at all to get here. There is a (hard to traverse) path to the East of IF you can walk up that will take you to the top where you can visit the highest point in the Zone above Iron Forge as well as the air field the you see when you fly over on the griffons. (You need slow fall within a cave behind the mountain to get to old Iron Forge, though it's not recommended as Blizz might ban your account.) It's really fun visiting the top of the mountain and the air field. I still find myself up there once every 2-3 months.

On a side note, that said cave, should you enter it to go to old Iron Forge is interesting in itself. Should you be off even slightly, you will fall through the game world and die. Your body will then appear outside the entrance to Iron Forge. It's amusing, really. I lead my old guildmates (all on lvl 1 dwarves and gnomes) up the path and to their doom. It was a good lol. ^_^

That poor tauren. This would be my reaction:
*punted* WHEEEEEEE!!!

Umm... That's the top of Ironforge Mountain. Not gonna see much of Thunderbluff from there I don't think.

So how does one get up there anyway?
Samskeyti Dec 2nd 2009 11:46AM
Doesn't matter if he is on Ironforge Mountain or in Mulgore, it's just a story caption, use your imagination :-)

Easy run up there. Take the same path you use to get to Ironforge Airstrip, then head toward the back where the trolls and dwarves are fighting. Turn right and you can work your way up to the top of Mt. Ironforge. You can also get down to the wetlands Farm from the airstrip, though you need to aim for the lake or pally bubble on the way down. These are all places blizzard will have to remake for cataclysm, so I would suggest visiting while you can

You don't need slow fall or anything else, you can just walk right up into the mountains. I forget the exact spot, it's near the farm where you get the dwarf mounts I think. Been up there many times. :)

The spot to get up there is in Loch Modan, immediately when you come out of the tunnel from Dun Morogh (northern part of Loch Modan) on the left. I think there's a tree, and if you go behind the tree you can do some fancy jumping to get into the mountains. I'm sure you can find a video on Youtube of someone doing it if you wanna go check it out. Very pretty up there though.

I tried that spot earlier this year and I think they plugged it up with invisible walls. Correct me if I'm mistaken though.
Amapele Dec 2nd 2009 7:04PM
No, you can still get up there via that route. It's not easy, but it's doable with a class that has a good fear spell.
