Blizzard properties now on Facebook

Through these fan pages, Blizzard will be able to give a constant feed of news updates and media such as video, galleries, or links. Fan pages are also a common conduit for promos and contests as frequently used by Blizzard partners such as Razer and Figureprints. There are also forums for discussion and a "wall" that allows fans to write on for questions, comments, or anything related to the franchises.
Interestingly, and perhaps owing to its massive player base, the Warcraft fan page has already gained three times as many followers as the other two properties in the short time it has been active. This reflects a similar trend on Twitter, another social networking tool that Blizzard has utilized lately, where @Warcraft has over twice the number of followers of either @Diablo or @Starcraft.

slyman.is.god Dec 2nd 2009 5:45PM
haha and maybe my mafia too :D
I'm glad they finally got a facebook page. I really don't understand twitter and facebook is were all my friends are, so I spend lots of time there. This is pretty cool :D those battlecry photos are nice xD!

but now my friends will know I play WoW.......

My thoughts exactly. Especially considering most people on Facebook aren't really "friends" of mine. I've also found that the more corporations start to embrace social networking media, the less attractive they are to me.
Maybe I'm just bitter because I don't "get" Twitter

The easy solution to that problem is to get rid of your friends.... or the game I guess (??!!)

I've already had the I Play Wow, Hearthstone, and Achieved apps on my Facebook. They already knew. Actually, i don't think anyone who didn't already know before that cares if i play WoW... ;P
slyman.is.god Dec 2nd 2009 5:52PM
I use all those apps too! :D they are cool

Hell, half the people that are "friends" on facebook are people I only know from WoW anyways. >.> OK, yeah, I'm a big nerd.

My "WoW friends" are completely and totally seperate from everything in "real life". There is one guy in my class at university that plays (2 geeks in a sports degree!) but we never talk about WoW, we play on different servers.
That's in total contrast to my "Xbox friends" they are ALL people I know from school, work, childhood, university etc. and I never add someone I don't know to my list.
I'm not sure why I have such a rule set, but I do and it's unlikely to change. And so things like facebook on the xbox get a thumbs up from me, I can see which of my "real friends" have xbox and I haven't added yet, whereas WoW on facebook just gets a "meh" from me.

I don't understand all this "social networking" crap. Instead of having a central place (oh, like... their website?!) with all the new videos, images and other stuff, they spread it around all these damned places like twitter, youtube, myspace, facebook, WHATEVER... And I have to go around all of them, looking for what's new.
In my days, we'd get a (free or bought) subdomain in some hosting and make our own website, where we'd post *all* our stuff. And it was done using our own html/php coding skills, not some 1-click CMS. Now, any shmuck can make a blog, along with an account on twitter, flicker or myspace (and usually he makes all of them) to write/post crap that nobody cares about, except him.
I'm sounding like the morons that go "im my days, epics were epic"... I should shut up...

Way back when I add wow as one of my hobbies on myspace and immediately I started getting gold seller spam. Add wow as a friend is just going to get you targeted for advertising and possible attempts at your account.
Ruhig Dec 2nd 2009 6:25PM
Yes, you do get a few ads on the side of the screen. But unlike MySpace, it's a lot harder for 'bots to try and "Friend" you on Facebook. And it's a lot easier to secure your account, IMO.

"...which Blizzard says they have big plans for."
[Sarcasm] No, they're going to put it there and then ignore it.
