Breakfast Topic: Where do you get your meat?

The section of Borean Tundra in between Amber Ledge and Warsong Hold is home to roaming Rhino families. If you AoE just some of the members of a family, the rest of the family will aggro. So, if you are of sufficient level and have a good Area of Effect or cone attack, you can take down multiple families of rhinos in a very short time -- even if there is someone else there farming rhinos, too. The hard part then becomes making sure you've looted each corpse in a pile of enormous dead mammals. Now, if I'm out of Rhino Dogs, I just take a few minutes to go stock up and then take a dragon back to Dalaran, just because I can.
Where do you get the meat you need to make the recipes you use regularly? Perhaps you know of where large families of Shoveltusks graze? Do you have any other tips for budding chefs looking to speed up their meat farming?

I have one word for you: Wintergrasp
Rexton Dec 4th 2009 11:06AM
I actually don't like fishing in WG. Too much of a carebear. I'll go every once in a while, but after the first rogue two shots my mage I'm done with it. I tend to hide under bridges to fish, but that only works for so long. Besides, fishing in pools gives you a chance at the turtle mount, which I'm pretty sure you can't get in WG.

bad idea, winter is a war zona, always: imposible to fish there
Eyhk Dec 4th 2009 11:06AM
Never had a problem myself, just fish when the fight isn't actually going on.
Hint: waterfalls, bridges and /lie before fishing.
Same strategy to fish in the opposing faction's capital city for the rare fish achievement.
Every fish you will ever need drops in wintergrasp, no pools necessary.
I even bring out fish feasts for pug heroics, just cause I can.

I got this nice spot in Borean Tundra, where you can cast into Wintergrasp without getting Flagged on a PVE server. I find it quite useful for the terrorfish fishing daily. Not really sure if it is considered a exploit or 'creative use of game mechanics' though.

To those concerned about being killed while fishing in Wintergrasp, for either the daily or farming purposes, there is a spot you can avoid it.
At the very southern edge (around where the waterfall is) you can stand on the icebergs and actually be outside of Wintergrasp. If you cast your line there back towards the water, you'll be fishing waters that are in Wintergrasp, and can get the Terrorfish for the daily or the other fish that drop there. You won't flag for PvP and can fish unmolested.

I just slaughter the Gorilla's just outside Frenzyheart Hill. I, possibly, get my daily done and I get a good chunk of meat with it.
I also fish in Grizzly Hills for Glacial Salmon. Not only do I get my buff food, but it's a real relaxing experience =D
Sinnh Dec 4th 2009 8:38AM
the gorillas outside frenzyheart hill are perfect, i farmed these guys for days for borean leather (which they always drop) and now have over 300 pieces of chilled meat which i don't need cause i already have my title. they're yellow and you can easily kill them in groups of 3 or 4. the only pain in the bottom was an elite frenzyheart that roams around and does quite a bit of damage (if you're hated with them, of course). i would park my hunter there, kill 15 to 20 gorillas, jump into AV, by the time i got back, the gorillas were back.
the zone in the blog pic is definitely the best place for rhino meat. and the best place to get fish for the fish feast is wintergrasp (next to the horde camp, for me).

For the fish there are actually a few spots you can stand with your map showing Borean Tundra and cast into the WG waters. You can fish to your heart's content for Fish Feast mats and the daily without flagging.
Marita Dec 4th 2009 11:03AM
O.o flagging? that sounds like a normal server
I'm always stun material ._. stupid cloth

Storm Peaks
Sicadastra Dec 4th 2009 8:15AM
I too like Storm Peaks for Rhinos. A little Time-Lost lookout at the same time certainly doesn't hurt. I believe that's also where Skoll spawns for us hunter types.
For mammoths I hit Borean Tundra.
ghola Dec 4th 2009 8:17AM
Autumnshadow has this right. The Storm Peaks, beneath all the flying blue proto drakes is the ideal place for rhino meat. It's close to Dalaran and has tons of rhinos that also drop chilled meats. It's also the location of Breakfast of Champions if you do the tournament dailies. You also have a small chance of catching one of the three Storm Peaks rares in that spot: Vyragosa, Dirkee, or Time-Lost Proto. This is definitely the best spot.
Neirin Dec 4th 2009 11:59AM
The Storm Peak rhinos also have a significant;y higher drop rate of rhino meat. I usually only have to kill 5-6 rhinos to get my daily done as opposed to a dozen+ in borean.
Emi Dec 4th 2009 8:09AM
there are large families of Shoveltusks in the Fjord right near Westguard Keep and around the burning area with the drakes in it, the Ember somethingorother =P
Arcanalor Dec 4th 2009 8:10AM
Alts, definitely. Though depending on the character, AoE farming is also a fun pasttime.
Grab a large enough pack of creatures and go to town. Borean Tundra seems to be pretty much it for the meat. Though Howling Fjord has some decent selection on Shoveltusk.
Between the Forsaken town (the one on the main rise, not Vengeance Landing) and the burning forest is pretty much the best place to gather Shoveltusk meat. Lots of AoE-able packs. I'd recommend the island with the Tuskarr settlement, but the wolves make fast work of the shoveltusk. Plus you're likely to be cussed out by a questing lowbie if you AoE everything down there. Unless you kill the wolves. Then you're likely to be randomly licked.
Shizu Dec 4th 2009 8:14AM
For both chilled meat and rhino meat, I go over to the Storm Peaks - Temple of Storms, I think, the same area where you do the jormungar egg sacs daily if you're a Crusader. The rhino population isn't as dense as Borean Tundra - in fact, if you're farming with the sole purpose of stocking up I wouldn't really recommend it - but I usually get my four meat in good time and there's not huge competition for the mobs.
Jamie Dec 4th 2009 8:12AM
Rhinos in Borean Tundra, I have no shame.
