Advanced screenshotting techniques and tips

First and foremost, taking a screenshot is usually bound to your "Print Screen" key -- whenever you're playing the game, just hit that key on your keyboard, and a screenshot (in JPG format -- it used to be saved in TGA, but Blizzard changed that a while ago) will show up in the /Screenshots folder inside the World of Warcraft installation on your hard drive. Of course, on a Mac keyboard, there is no Print Screen button, so I have mine bound to the "Home" button instead -- you can rebind it to whatever you want in the options menu. And that's just the basics -- it gets more complicated from there.
First thing you'll probably want to do is pretty the screenshot up by getting all of those messy UI elements out of the way -- you can do that by pressing Alt-Z before you take the shot. If you want to zoom way back and get a big wide shot, you can either change your camera distance in the UI, or do a little code tweak to make it even wider. You can change your video mode, too, if you want to get the best graphics you can.
And finally, addons can help as well. Multishot will automatically take screenshots for you at opportune moments -- leveling, boss kills, and so on. PhotoOp will do the same thing, and even has a script API that will let you script screenshots whenever you want. Deathsnap will hit the button when you die (in case you want to see what killed you?), and FreezeFrame seems really interesting -- it has all sorts of extra options to add to your images, including putting a stamp at the bottom of which character you're on, and where you were when the shot was taken.
As for making your screenshots look better, you might even want to turn to traditional photo composition tips for that one. But the addons and UI tips above should have you doing as much screenshotting as you want in no time.

It's worth noting that the article has a link on how to improve screenshot quality, but it's not flagged as such. Here's the direct link:

If you set it to jpg and 10, you will get higher quality then the defaults. If you set it to tga, 10 you'll get even higher quality, but the files will be HUGE.

I've been using ScreenPlus pretty much ever since I've been taking screenshots. It's a great addon.

On my Mac F13, is the default for screenshots. I didn't bind that key, it was already bound.
What I would really like to do is take screenshots when /s is up. On my guild's web site is a staged photo with a "say". I had to align my screen so my UI wouldn't show because removing the UI removes any "say" on the screen. Most of the time, that's fine, but there are occasions when someone's comment is priceless and you want to save it or you want to stage a photo with a say. You can't do that when you remove the UI.
Does anyone know of a work around?

Mac users: the keyboard shortcut for taking a screenshot in any program whatsoever has been the same three buttons since the beginning of time.
Command-Shift-3.

PS: These files are always saved to your Desktop. Pre-Snow Leopard, they will be labeled "Picture #". If you have Snow Leopard, they are conveniently labeled with a date and time stamp.

It's true. Even on my Mac Plus!

With the expansion coming and the massive changes to the geography we may all want to get out and take some shots of the old world so that we have pics of what it used to look like.
My advise about composition is to really look at your picture and check the corners and sides for stuff that will take away from the subject. The tendency is to concentrate totally on the subject and forget that gnome rolling around in the corner laughing at you as you snap that romantic shot.

I hate those gnomes. It never fails that I take a nice shot of the scenery or a precious moment with a friend (and whatever creatures we just slaughtered), only to notice a naked gnome in the picture later.

I used to take screen shots pretty frequently, but since I changed to a mac, I keep having to look up which three buttons I have to press to take one...since as mentioned, there is no print screen button. If I can figure out how to bind that command to one single key, I'd be over the moon. I'll have to play around with things I guess. I'm not so great with the workings of the computer.

I'm a big screenshot taker. I also have a 5 second lag when I hit printscreen. Does this happen to anyone? Any ideas why? I can't pvp and live and take a screenshot!
Thanks in advance
