Actually, it's not that difficult to find a tank spot. Everyone is looking for tanks, hell they're even overlook some minor disadvantages in gear to get one. At least on our server.
I think with patch 3.3 going live you can get nice gear very very fast by just massively running random heroics, farming lots of emblems of triumph (and items of these new 5-man instances) and some emblems of frost as well. Actually ... that is almost the same gear, full geared non-pdok tanks have.
So gear shouldn't be the problem at all. Only thing that matters as a main tank is if you enjoy tanking. I'm tanking for a year or so, most of the time I was main tanking, and some users before mentioned that a main tank is somehow raidlead. That is true.
If you don't want to lead raids, don't main tank. Another point in my guild seems to be, if you're main tank, you're gonna get invited to every single raid. For me that is way too much, especially when you're just looking at these same feet of pdk bosses every freakin day.
Hopefully icecrown will be more exciting ... maybe more claws, hoofs and alike to look at.
Seriously, tanks as well as healers are those roles in every raid, who are devoted to their raid. They sacrifice their time (and some of them the time for family) for their raid. And that's happening faster than you might think ......
Peace ;o)
