2009 is coming to a close, and with it, "the aughts," which means we're about to get flooded with list after list of the best of the decade. It's been a raucous ten years for gaming (some, including me, might call it the best ten years in gaming so far), and Crispy Gamer is
the first to step up and try to pick the best games we've seen so far. In their Game of the Decade showdown,
World of Warcraft is still in the running, up against Bioware's legendary
Knights of the Old Republic RPG, as
the latest post has readers trying to pick the final four choices. If you think our game is more deserving than
KotOR (note that this isn't the MMO, it's the old RPG with
your friendly meatbag hater droid, HK-47), you can
vote for WoW over on this page until Tuesday at 6pm.
KotOR is a great game, but as a decade-defining game, I'd have to think
WoW will pull that one off. After that, though, there's some tough competition:
BioShock and
Half-Life 2 are up against each other,
Halo and
Left 4 Dead are facing off in another bracket, and
Super Smash Brothers Melee and
Shadow of the Colossus (which I guess I need to go play now) are the challengers in the third. I have to say -- as a "Game of the Decade,"
BioShock and
Half-Life 2 are definitely in competition, but if you want to pick a game which has really
defined both the online and casual gaming movements of the last ten years? We'll have to see what the readers choose, but I'd have to think
World of Warcraft is your game.

Go KOTOR!
kabshiel Dec 7th 2009 9:15PM
I liked KotOR, but Baldur's Gate 2 was both better and more influential. Sadly, that didn't make the list.
Revan Dec 8th 2009 5:23PM
Did anyone else wanna stab Carth as much as i did?
Jaxal Dec 8th 2009 12:32AM
i completely agree about baldurs gate 2. that game was incredible
Muse Dec 8th 2009 3:17AM
Carth served one very specific purpose: Got women interested in the game, and kept their interest all the way to the end. By the time KotOR had been out for a few months, he had his own personality cult going among a subsection of the female gamers. Granted, not everyone liked him (and his in-game stats sucked, despite being ranged it was more logical to give him a sword and send him up to tank) but the ones that did... hoo boy. Put the fanatic back in the fan.

This was for Xbox right? Yeah... never played it.
Considering Warcraft has reached MORE people than console titles exclusive to one console, I'll be going with Warcraft FTW.

The Game of the Decade is Majora's Mask. Everyone involved with this contest should feel bad for having an opinion contrary to mine.
Jason Dec 7th 2009 9:51PM
Agreed.
Jimmy Dec 8th 2009 1:01AM
Agreed.

Well of course WoW will win now that a WoW-based site has linked to the voting.
Though my personal vote goes for KotOR.

From that site's article on Warcraft: "The consummate MMORPG -- pronounced mor-RAH-peg -"
Really? People say mor-rah-peg? Most people I know (myself included) say m-m-o-r-p-g, or shorten it to MMO. While I'm well aware there are non-rpg MMOs, the terms are somewhat synonymous in describing games which lots of people play online simultaneously.
So - you guys? Is it common to say "mor-rah-peg"?

see its all about pugging after all. only now is blizzard realising this.
Taytayflan Dec 7th 2009 9:15PM
Never heard of it. Ever. I say MMO to my gaming friends, even to the ones that haven't touched an MMO before, and the immediately know what I'm talking about. I might occasionally add the RPG
Kelashtir Dec 7th 2009 9:23PM
I always pronounced it as mem-oar-pug-ger.
Nawaf Dec 7th 2009 9:51PM
I usually just say M.M.O. I've never met any one who says it like that.
Noah Dec 7th 2009 10:02PM
I just pronounce it "WoW." What else is there?
swimstarguy Dec 7th 2009 10:06PM

I've always pronounced it like that. :)

Moh-mohr-pa-guh when I'm trying to be funny.
MMO When I'm having a serious discussion about serious gaming for serious adults like myself.
Tom Dec 7th 2009 9:15PM
Shadow of the Colossus really was an amazing, amazing game.
videvekartuspaan Dec 7th 2009 10:45PM
That was truely an amazing game.
