The Queue: A vote has been initiated to kick your dog

Patch 3.3, the Fall of the Lich King, is finally here, and you know what that means! Well, I mean, hopefully it means questions for the Queue that haven't been asked a million times before, or questions about new content.
Haha, just kidding. Today's Queue, like most other Queues, has nearly nothing to do with current events.
Khrono asked...
Why is it that my Paladin can wield a two handed and one handed sword, but for some reason he can't hold a dagger? Is there some lore out there that tells the tale of a Knight of the Silver Hand that insulted the dagger gods, so now we can't use daggers?
Cause there are some nicely itemized casting daggers out there I wouldn't mind getting my hand on.
It's all about flavor.
A dagger doesn't fit the "kit" of a paladin in Blizzard's eyes -- much like you don't see rogues using staves or priests using swords. There's no discernable "lore" reason for it, or even a gameplay reason. It just doesn't fit with the profile of a paladin to use a tiny dagger while lugging around a 50-lb shield and tossing holy magic around.
Elish asked...
I still love this column. but seriously were did ask a lore nerd go? I have some weird questions that a lore guy might not be able to awnser. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LORE!?
Ask a Lord Nerd has been rolled into The Queue. You can ask lore-related questions here if it floats your boat.
Drennick asked...
How will grouping for Maraudon via the 3.3 Dungeon System work? I know it's all one instance, but there's three different entrances. The purple side, the orange side, and the inner portal. Will you be able to choose which entrance you take when you get a group, or will it automatically take you to one specific entrance?
You can choose the specific "side" of Maraudon you want to run in the Dungeon Finder tool as of today. This should make getting a level-specific group much easier. It also means you don't have to find the damn entrance. Somebody up there loves you.
Slash asked...
Will Blizzard ever do anything about the amount of names that are available on a realm? as it is, it's virtually impossible to aquire a decent name as literally they are all mostly gone now, but what annoys me is these names are usually taken by people who havent logged in for for like 3-5 years and are reserved probably on level one alts, it will only get worse as time goes on and i seriously think Blizz should free these names up for those who actually play the game.
I get where you're coming from -- my rogue's name was originally Ash, and I had to do some serious finagling to get that name on a server to which I transferred. The issue here, though, isn't necessarily that Blizzard is trying to keep the names from you, but keep them for someone who may come back to the game (or that character) at some point, and would be a little miffed to see that their name was gone.
There are certain rules in place in the Support department in regard to "releasing" names, though; I'm not really at liberty to discuss them in detail, but if you have a specific name you want and you can't find that person on the Armory, it might be worth a GM ticket to inquire about it.
Blondie asked...
What is up with the fog/smoke by entrance to the Argent Stand in Zul'Drak?
I believe the intention of the effect is that lightning has just struck the ground in front of you. You can see the lightning strike the first time you walk up the Argent Stand.
Condor asked...
Who drops the T10 gear? What kind of Armor Token are we looking at? I assume one piece off each wing-end-boss and another off the LK?
Tier 10 gear must first be purchased with Emblems of Frost. The purchaseable sets are item level 251. Once you have a piece of the badge set, you can upgrade it to level 264 with a token that drops off of bosses in the Icecrown Citadel raid. The bosses will drop a better token on their specific Heroic modes, which can be used to upgrade your 264 set to a 277 set.
We don't know which bosses drop tokens yet, but it's very safe to assume that it's the final boss of each wing and then one off of Arthas.

One thing I hope they fix is the ability to skip the intro for Halls of Reflection. Just like TOC, it's cool the first time, then after that it gets pretty irritating.
Readers tell me that as long as everyone in the group has completed the quest for Halls of the Reflection, there's a dialogue option for Jaina that'll skip right to the action.

"Readers tell me that as long as everyone in the group has completed the quest for Halls of the Reflection, there's a dialogue option for Jaina that'll skip right to the action"
Alliance player now are we? Well, as for the HORDE, there is a similar option.

I was going to reply make a comment of simply; " *Sylvanas", but it seems you've beat me to it.
Oh no.
Sylvanas nerd-love overtaking... me....
ZOMG SyLvAnAs is liek SO badass! Seriously though, ever since they changed her voice and did the whole Battle for the Undercity thing, every time that banshee speaks I just about overload on adrenaline. Seriously, most. inspiring. faction leader. evar.
Vaulkner Dec 10th 2009 7:07PM
Off-topic, but personally I can't stand Sylvannas as a character.
With her attitude, she comes off like she's the only one the Lich King has ever wronged. "Grr, I was killed and raised as an undead; I alone have the right to take vengence on Arthas (even though I had my opportunity and botched it) and to hell with anyone unfortunate enough to not make themselves a tool for my personal vendetta." How about the tens of thousands or even millions of others that Arthas has unwillingly raised as Scourge - or worse? They don't matter? Oh, I forgot, the world revolves around Sylvannas. Give me a break.

Sylvanas really is a bitch in these new dungeons. Especially in the Pit of Saron, after the orc gives his speech and right at the beginning.
I think I'm starting to hate her.
jam Dec 10th 2009 7:25PM
I killed Sylvanas repeatedly in Warcraft 3. She wasn't impressive then and hasn't been since.
Pyromelter Dec 10th 2009 7:36PM
sylvanas was a p***y when she was alive. I know, I killed her with arthas in WC3. I think i just like autoattacked her twice and she died. She wasn't that endearing in WC3 when she was alive, and now that's she Forsaken, I think she's a little more interesting... but she's still a p***y imo. I think Blizzard tried to make Sylvanas into a character like Kerrigan, but if I was taking an SAT test, the correct answer would be Kerrigan::Sylvanas as Bob Barker::Drew Carey. But I don't mind her in the ICC 5mans. It fits the lore at least (unlike the ret-destruction of the lich king/scourge relation).
Lucidien Dec 10th 2009 8:14PM
@vaulkner
In response to your suggestion theat Sylvanas is egocentric and behaves as though the world of warcraft revolves around her; Yes. Yes she does. But this isn't negative to her character because this behaviour is valid. As, imo, Azroth does indeed revolve around my Queen. Long live the QuEeN!!!!!!!1!!!!one!!!!

Can't stand her new voice. It's awful.
I respected her as a leader when I was new and all I had to go on was her voice and a little WC3, but the more I learn, the less I like her.

"Sylvanas really is a bitch in these new dungeons. Especially in the Pit of Saron, after the orc gives his speech and right at the beginning.

Yes I hated that part! She saved us 'heroes' but let so many others die by that dragon.
She may not know it now but she's as cold and heartless as 'he' is.
Her revenge has consumed her whole.
Valis Dec 10th 2009 11:04PM
Hah to further my thoughts it seems like she's being turned in to the 'amoral' hottie of WOW.
What with the boob job, the female 'assistants' (durr hurr hurr and nerds know what 'that means') and the total disregard for anyone but herself......uh huh...
Yep it's elfin undead Laura Croft 2.0.
...and yet Rommath, Halduron Brightwing, and Lor'themar Theron rot in Silvermoon with their old character models. >_>

Re: Tier 10
This is complete speculation until the content is actually available, but my suspicion is that the regular upgrade tokens will drop from both regular 25 man and heroic 10 man, while the heroic upgrade tokens will be for heroic 25 man only. This would match ToC's gear philosophy, in which both 10 Heroic and 25 Normal dropped 245 gear.
Neirin Dec 10th 2009 6:46PM
You're probably right, but considering the particularly long waiting period before Heroic mode becomes available, I'd like to see a bit more accessibility for 10 mans. Of course, by the time hard core 10 man players get enough emblems of frost (since they are only running the bosses once, not twice) to get more than 1-2 pieces of t10, heroic mode will probably become available.
scherbaddie Dec 10th 2009 7:58PM
The particularly long waiting period is exactly the same for 25 heroic mode. As a hard core 10 man player, you will have to wait exactly as long as a hard core 25 man player to get access to your highest gear level (heroic mode drops).
Bjern Fita Dec 11th 2009 3:56AM
I think the original post was referring tot he fact that 25 mans are likely running both 10 and 25 man dungeons, whereas 10 mans obviously just do the 10s.
25 raiders will be grabbing their badges much faster...

Is there a good article dealing with the mechanics of pvp? I'm a very pve type person, and didn't see much on how to make the transition even on such places as arenajunkies
ash Dec 10th 2009 6:14PM
I understand the reasoning behind not giving a pally a dagger but some of the other class restrictions on weapons don't hold up as well. Namely I think there should one weapon type that all casters can share. In a game like D&D that was the club or staff. For WOW I think allowing all classes to use a mace would be reasonable because it is a fair approximation of the club in form and function. For pally's specifically I think allowing then to use staffs would be okay. Lorewise or for the sake of flavor you can think of a monk or cleric like the character Friar Tuck who used his staff to best Robin Hood on a log over a river. Staffs can be used as martial weapons as well as being related to more caster like characters thereby fitting fairly well with a paladin's "kit".
Ametrine Dec 10th 2009 6:28PM
I too noticed the similarity between the class/weapon options of WoW and that of D&D. Good eye.
flint Dec 10th 2009 6:38PM
All healers can use maces, and I believe all caster can use daggers.
Letting mages and warlocks use maces would make healers very sad.
Neofox Dec 10th 2009 6:50PM
I just want to expand a little on Michael's answer to paladins' not being able to wield daggers as, "all about flavor."
It's because daggers are seen as concealed weapons. Sure, rogues wear them right at their side in plain sight; but daggers are small for a reason, and that's concealment. And a concealed weapon is always seen as dishonorable. Paladins are big on honor.
Doberbane Dec 10th 2009 7:02PM
I would love to see hand weapons usable by everyone.
