The Queue: A vote has been initiated to kick your dog

Patch 3.3, the Fall of the Lich King, is finally here, and you know what that means! Well, I mean, hopefully it means questions for the Queue that haven't been asked a million times before, or questions about new content.
Haha, just kidding. Today's Queue, like most other Queues, has nearly nothing to do with current events.
Khrono asked...
Why is it that my Paladin can wield a two handed and one handed sword, but for some reason he can't hold a dagger? Is there some lore out there that tells the tale of a Knight of the Silver Hand that insulted the dagger gods, so now we can't use daggers?
Cause there are some nicely itemized casting daggers out there I wouldn't mind getting my hand on.
It's all about flavor.
A dagger doesn't fit the "kit" of a paladin in Blizzard's eyes -- much like you don't see rogues using staves or priests using swords. There's no discernable "lore" reason for it, or even a gameplay reason. It just doesn't fit with the profile of a paladin to use a tiny dagger while lugging around a 50-lb shield and tossing holy magic around.
Elish asked...
I still love this column. but seriously were did ask a lore nerd go? I have some weird questions that a lore guy might not be able to awnser. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LORE!?
Ask a Lord Nerd has been rolled into The Queue. You can ask lore-related questions here if it floats your boat.
Drennick asked...
How will grouping for Maraudon via the 3.3 Dungeon System work? I know it's all one instance, but there's three different entrances. The purple side, the orange side, and the inner portal. Will you be able to choose which entrance you take when you get a group, or will it automatically take you to one specific entrance?
You can choose the specific "side" of Maraudon you want to run in the Dungeon Finder tool as of today. This should make getting a level-specific group much easier. It also means you don't have to find the damn entrance. Somebody up there loves you.
Slash asked...
Will Blizzard ever do anything about the amount of names that are available on a realm? as it is, it's virtually impossible to aquire a decent name as literally they are all mostly gone now, but what annoys me is these names are usually taken by people who havent logged in for for like 3-5 years and are reserved probably on level one alts, it will only get worse as time goes on and i seriously think Blizz should free these names up for those who actually play the game.
I get where you're coming from -- my rogue's name was originally Ash, and I had to do some serious finagling to get that name on a server to which I transferred. The issue here, though, isn't necessarily that Blizzard is trying to keep the names from you, but keep them for someone who may come back to the game (or that character) at some point, and would be a little miffed to see that their name was gone.
There are certain rules in place in the Support department in regard to "releasing" names, though; I'm not really at liberty to discuss them in detail, but if you have a specific name you want and you can't find that person on the Armory, it might be worth a GM ticket to inquire about it.
Blondie asked...
What is up with the fog/smoke by entrance to the Argent Stand in Zul'Drak?
I believe the intention of the effect is that lightning has just struck the ground in front of you. You can see the lightning strike the first time you walk up the Argent Stand.
Condor asked...
Who drops the T10 gear? What kind of Armor Token are we looking at? I assume one piece off each wing-end-boss and another off the LK?
Tier 10 gear must first be purchased with Emblems of Frost. The purchaseable sets are item level 251. Once you have a piece of the badge set, you can upgrade it to level 264 with a token that drops off of bosses in the Icecrown Citadel raid. The bosses will drop a better token on their specific Heroic modes, which can be used to upgrade your 264 set to a 277 set.
We don't know which bosses drop tokens yet, but it's very safe to assume that it's the final boss of each wing and then one off of Arthas.

One thing I hope they fix is the ability to skip the intro for Halls of Reflection. Just like TOC, it's cool the first time, then after that it gets pretty irritating.
Readers tell me that as long as everyone in the group has completed the quest for Halls of the Reflection, there's a dialogue option for Jaina that'll skip right to the action.

Never mind skipping HoR's intro, running CoS 6 times a day via the random tool = an hour of waiting for Arseface Menethil to put his plan into action (while we do all of the work)

Question for the Lore Gods, what is the story behind the kitty cats playing around the blacksmith's in Arathi Basin? I know this is probably more trivia than anything else, but I have always wondered about them.
Ametrine Dec 10th 2009 6:26PM
Everyone loves cats.
Even blacksmiths.
themightysven Dec 10th 2009 7:37PM
Underfoot is there if the Horde are in control, Spike if the Alliance are in control. If someone assaults the flag, the currently out of favor one will appear and chase off the one in control, then whoever captures or defends the BS, their side's animal comes back from the chase.
PvtDeth Dec 11th 2009 1:35AM
Are you serious? The new cat actually runs off the old cat? Because if that's true, that's pretty cool, the kind of detail you'd expect from Wrath, not Classic.

Why can't paladins use daggers? Because they wear plate.
Ever tried holding a steak knife while wearing an oven mitt?
kunukia Dec 10th 2009 6:48PM
Well said.
Bubsa Dec 10th 2009 7:05PM
Ever tried shooting fire from your hands or skinning an animal in 1.5 seconds?
Application of RL knowledge to situations like these is like trying to find a dagger in a haystack: Tedious, and dangerous.

Warriors can use Daggers though.
"Warriors can wear any type of armor; plate armour becomes available at level 40. They are able to use shields and can wield any weapon with the exception of wands and relics. "

My money is on the previous posted answer: daggers have a less-than-honorable connotation.

So, thanks to the release of the corehound pet, in theory one can tell who has an authenticator or not based on whether or not they have the corehound. (This won't always be 100% accurate, unless the pet is disabled if you disassociate the authenticator from your account, but right now it's a safe bet.)
Is there some way to look up what pets someone has, especially from outside the game? I'm an officer in a very very large guild, and I know that there are people who STILL don't have an authenticator, but of course we don't have any way to tell who does and who doesn't. However, if we could look up everyone's vanity pets (or better yet, run some kind of scan of a list of people), and they DON'T have the corehound, we will absolutely know their account is not secure. At that point we can contact them individually about it, and/or downgrade their bank access until they get their act together.
Ametrine Dec 10th 2009 6:25PM
The Corehound Pup is indeed removed if the Authenticator is detached from the account. But only if detached - switching to a new authenticator leave the fiery little mutt intact.
Corbett Dec 10th 2009 7:05PM
When it comes to checking whether or not your guild mates are secure, I think you have no alternative but to ask people to present their Corehound if they want access to the bank. Unfortunately, browsing user's pets to discover who does and does not possess the Corehound Pup would be just as appealing to hackers as it is to security conscious guild leaders.
icepyro Dec 10th 2009 8:20PM
I'd also like to mention the corehound is a consumable(?) BoP pet (unlike Mr. Chilly or Ony Whelping) and sent to all your current toons. If you delete the mail, there is no way to have a corehound for that toon without putting in a ticket (to my knowledge). I mean, you can't just mail it from an alt.
So even asking to see the corehound might be more hassle than it's worth if the person didn't care/know to keep it.
And I'm weird and did nearly delete the mail on a toon I didn't want the pet for before deciding it didn't hurt anything to keep.

In th new Looking for Raid tool, does the group form before the raid is filled? It'd be nice to run some vanilla or TBC dungeons without having to wait for the group to fill.
Viper007Bond Dec 10th 2009 6:24PM
Where has Condor been? Non-heroic tier tokens haven't dropped since T8. It's been badge/trophy based for a while now.
VSUReaper Dec 10th 2009 6:28PM
I was told by a friend that you have to run all 3 of the new 5 mans once to be attuned for the ICC raid, but another friend said the opposite.
Which is it?
Microtonal Dec 10th 2009 6:37PM
There is no attunement at all for the raid. You have to run the 5-mans in order (Forge, Pit, Halls) to unlock all three, but after that you can run any of them at any time (subject to your lockout, of course).

Speaking of names and such, I once tried to /w a friend of mine but I made a typo. Instead of him just receiving the typo'd message, I got a message saying that that speech was reserved. Any idea what this means?
kia Dec 10th 2009 7:46PM
There are some "reserved" strings of letters that were part of gold selling companies' names. It's kind of regarded as a failed experiment because it blocked too much regular, non-gold-related chat. It's why they don't add current gold sellers or other annoying terms to the filter.
For example, you can't type Bukowski. Or 'my talbuk owns'.
