The Queue: A vote has been initiated to kick your dog

Patch 3.3, the Fall of the Lich King, is finally here, and you know what that means! Well, I mean, hopefully it means questions for the Queue that haven't been asked a million times before, or questions about new content.
Haha, just kidding. Today's Queue, like most other Queues, has nearly nothing to do with current events.
Khrono asked...
Why is it that my Paladin can wield a two handed and one handed sword, but for some reason he can't hold a dagger? Is there some lore out there that tells the tale of a Knight of the Silver Hand that insulted the dagger gods, so now we can't use daggers?
Cause there are some nicely itemized casting daggers out there I wouldn't mind getting my hand on.
It's all about flavor.
A dagger doesn't fit the "kit" of a paladin in Blizzard's eyes -- much like you don't see rogues using staves or priests using swords. There's no discernable "lore" reason for it, or even a gameplay reason. It just doesn't fit with the profile of a paladin to use a tiny dagger while lugging around a 50-lb shield and tossing holy magic around.
Elish asked...
I still love this column. but seriously were did ask a lore nerd go? I have some weird questions that a lore guy might not be able to awnser. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LORE!?
Ask a Lord Nerd has been rolled into The Queue. You can ask lore-related questions here if it floats your boat.
Drennick asked...
How will grouping for Maraudon via the 3.3 Dungeon System work? I know it's all one instance, but there's three different entrances. The purple side, the orange side, and the inner portal. Will you be able to choose which entrance you take when you get a group, or will it automatically take you to one specific entrance?
You can choose the specific "side" of Maraudon you want to run in the Dungeon Finder tool as of today. This should make getting a level-specific group much easier. It also means you don't have to find the damn entrance. Somebody up there loves you.
Slash asked...
Will Blizzard ever do anything about the amount of names that are available on a realm? as it is, it's virtually impossible to aquire a decent name as literally they are all mostly gone now, but what annoys me is these names are usually taken by people who havent logged in for for like 3-5 years and are reserved probably on level one alts, it will only get worse as time goes on and i seriously think Blizz should free these names up for those who actually play the game.
I get where you're coming from -- my rogue's name was originally Ash, and I had to do some serious finagling to get that name on a server to which I transferred. The issue here, though, isn't necessarily that Blizzard is trying to keep the names from you, but keep them for someone who may come back to the game (or that character) at some point, and would be a little miffed to see that their name was gone.
There are certain rules in place in the Support department in regard to "releasing" names, though; I'm not really at liberty to discuss them in detail, but if you have a specific name you want and you can't find that person on the Armory, it might be worth a GM ticket to inquire about it.
Blondie asked...
What is up with the fog/smoke by entrance to the Argent Stand in Zul'Drak?
I believe the intention of the effect is that lightning has just struck the ground in front of you. You can see the lightning strike the first time you walk up the Argent Stand.
Condor asked...
Who drops the T10 gear? What kind of Armor Token are we looking at? I assume one piece off each wing-end-boss and another off the LK?
Tier 10 gear must first be purchased with Emblems of Frost. The purchaseable sets are item level 251. Once you have a piece of the badge set, you can upgrade it to level 264 with a token that drops off of bosses in the Icecrown Citadel raid. The bosses will drop a better token on their specific Heroic modes, which can be used to upgrade your 264 set to a 277 set.
We don't know which bosses drop tokens yet, but it's very safe to assume that it's the final boss of each wing and then one off of Arthas.

One thing I hope they fix is the ability to skip the intro for Halls of Reflection. Just like TOC, it's cool the first time, then after that it gets pretty irritating.
Readers tell me that as long as everyone in the group has completed the quest for Halls of the Reflection, there's a dialogue option for Jaina that'll skip right to the action.

What's the deal with the new /readycheck...did I miss it in the patch notes, or is it unintended that only the raid leader can toss out RCs anymore?

Has this already been answered?
How many dungeon runs with random pugs do you need to complete before getting the dog?
ZMES_Matt Dec 11th 2009 10:41AM
It's not neccissacrily how many dungeons, but players. You have to group with 100 random people using the Dungeon Finder tool to get the Perky Pug.
However, if you're like me and always go into the que alone then you'll get 4 random people every time, meaning you only have to run 25 successful dungeons to get the dog. You'll also get the title "the Patient" at 50 random players.
I'm currently at 92/100, and I'll have him by the end of the day. :D

Question- Why can't we whisper in the new cross-server instances? We can whisper in battlegrounds! It's kind of annoying. Thanks for any reply!

Did the patch affect anything with mouse sensitivity? My mouse is very wonky in Wow post-patch, and not on other programs.

Alright, Ive been wondering a long time about this. When it comes to Shaman totems, specifically Windfury and Wrath of Air, which one is appropriate for specific classes? For example, if I have two other casters in the group with me (Im resto), Ill obviously drop wrath of air. But, if theres a hunter (who uses mana but shoots arrows) and/or a pally (who uses mana but is melee), would they benefit more from Windfury or from Wrath of Air?

So I have a pretty big question:
I've been dating this fantastic girl for half a year. Whenever I play WoW, she's always teases me, calls me a nerd and comments on how she doesn't "get the game." She goes around telling her girlfriends, "I'm perfect, except for the fact that I play WoW." This is fine. She's not a gamer (neither am I, really. I ONLY play WoW...nothing else...NOTHING else...). I raid every Tuesday night with the occasional Sunday and she doesn't complain - just teases.
Well about a week ago, I jokingly bring up, "Hey, baby. Maybe you should play WoW with me sometime. After all, I read Harry Potter with you and I really enjoyed it. Maybe you'd like WoW..." Low and behold she replies, "Sure." My jaw hits the ground. She goes on to say, "I'll probably like it. Hell, I'd probably even get addicted to it."
So here's my problem: I know my girlfriend is not going to actively search out the game, load it onto her mac and surprise me in-game (that'd be great). We live in NYC so we can't afford to go out all the time. This seems like it would be a real fun way to spend a night or two a week. I offered to pay for the game and her monthly fee if she were to play with me.
This notion of playing the game with her really excites me, but how do I buy the game and give it to her in such a way without seeming too pushy. I know I only have one chance here. Push the idea too hard and she'll think I'm an addict. Don't push it all and it'll never happen. While she says she wants to play, I imagine this is something akin to being dragged to see "Up In The Air": you go, out of love for the other person, then you realize you're tearing up near the end. Damn, I actually liked that movie...
Essential question: How should I progress? How did others bring their signifigant others into the Azeroth? Most importantly, what class should she play (I've got a lvl 30 priest alt ready to rock...)?!
Julianne Dec 11th 2009 11:35AM
do the refer a friend free trial, it'll send her an e-mail and you'll both get triple XP while you're together. You also get a cool mount.
ShammyHeals Dec 11th 2009 11:38AM
I know that's not proactive enough - although I definitely plan on going that route.

I got my first token piece off of Saurfang in 25 man.
Now I just need the 60 emblems to get my head piece =(

Are there any new lore quests explaining the new race and class combinations in Cataclysm available in patch 3.3? You know...like the Holy Cow quest where that one dude sends you to Thunder Bluff to listen to them talk about how Tauren are Sun Worshipers?

About the character naming issues on servers... I'll admit to occasionally reserving a name I like on a server I intend to play on. I'd never actually had anything come of that until quite recently.
Usually I'll just go back after a month or so if I never actually end up playing that character and delete it. On this occasion however, when I went back to actually play the character, I found that it had been renamed. The name was far too innocuous to have been changed due to a violation. And even if it had, the character had not been in game in well over two months and had not even reached level 5. So I opened a ticket with customer support to inquire why it was changed.
Their response basically amounted to: it was an unplayed, unleveled character, so we gave it to someone else. Honestly, I don't have any particular objection to that policy, so long as its enforced equitably. I wasn't even aware that it existed until the CS Representative told me about the decision. So anyways... if you've really got your heart set on a name, feel free to petition a GM. If the name is owned by an unplayed character below level 5 - you may just get it.

I went Prot (Paladin, imagine that!) after I hit 80 and have since ran Naxx and a few heroics, but not very many. I absolutely loathe WoW-Heroes, but using that as a base my paladin sits at 1999 gear score, which I’m slowly upgrading over time. Now, I could really use the Badges to help with those upgrades, but I’m terrified of tanking using the new LFG tool because I will be expected to know the heroics.
I can look up boss abilities on WoWhead in the pre-pull time and see quick strats, but for the most part I’m lost. I’m sure part of this is the usual newbie-starting Tank issue, but do you have any suggestions for what a tank who’s never been in a certain heroic before should do? Asking the group is always an option, but being heckled and possibly kicked because you're a "noob" doesn't sound like an appealing option.
Ianmis Dec 11th 2009 3:14PM
Any chance we will see the NR emblems consalidated into the latest, the Triumphs? It's seems pointless to have to do the emblem exchange to heirosim when the emblems are all equal in value.
Beli Dec 11th 2009 4:59PM
Probably no one is looking at this anymore, since it's a day old, but i figured i would ask anyways... What's up with reputation gains in heroics since the patch (I can't find mention of it anywhere)? I was in there the other night with a few guildies (all of whom are set on rep for all the major Wrath factions, and for me all the minor ones), and we were getting rep with factions like Explorer's League - factions that you couldn't earn rep with in dungeons previously. For me, Explorer's League was the only one I hadn't gotten up to 999/1000 (just barely into exalted), but it is now!

With the death of the lich king wow will never be the same. It's the last chapter of warcraft, and 4.0 will be WoW. the Lich king just seems to epic to die already and I don't know if any other raid boss will be as epic as him. Do you think that there will be greater things after Wrath or is it the begining of the end?
Also, I was reading about the Shadowmourne quest chain and I noticed the final quest http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=24748#comments:id=913939
Now call me a greedy bastard, but I think that defeating the Lich King might deserve a little more then 33g20s Are the factions of azeroth broke? Or is Darion just cheep?
Anglefire Dec 12th 2009 4:36PM
I was wondering about the new quest tracker.
Is it possible to move it about the screen, and/or resize it?
Is it possible to select which quests are shown there, and in what order?
Is it possible to make TomTome (or any other arrow thingie) work with it?

Going back to the BoA heirlooms-- they're great and they scale from L1 to L80 quite nicely -- and you can mail them to your starting character to give them an edge starting at L1... only, there are no mailboxes in the starting zones.
You can mail your BoAs to your brand new L1, but they'd have to level or quick run out of the starting zone to check their mailbox.
So, my question is, why are there no mailboxes in the starting zones and is the rationale for that still valid (given the buffs to encourage leveling alts)?
Thanks,
