Two Bosses Enter: Chrono-Lord Epoch vs. Xevozz

It's getting tighter in here ... This week brings together Chrono-Lord Epoch (The Culling of Stratholme) and Xevozz (Violet Hold). Epoch comes to the Thunderdome after defeating Prince Taldaram back in August, while Xevozz earns his berth courtesy of a win against Ionar.
Let's go over the ground rules:
- All of the competitors' abilities, including crowd control and other effects to which bosses are usually immune, work on their opponents.
- Assume that the opponents share similar levels, health pools and comparative overall damage output.
- This deathmatch takes place in neutral territory, which shall in no way hinder either opponent from using his usual resources. Get creative in your scenario, if necessary, but make it work in spirit.
- Don't get caught up in gameplay mechanics and what actual players might do in each encounter.
- Don't neglect style, story and scale.
Xevozz (Violet Hold)Back in business! Now to execute an exit strategy.
Xevozz is an Ethereal imprisoned in the Violet Hold. He is known for his summoned spheres of arcane energy, which feed his power and cause him to enrage.
Read more about Xevozz's combat tactics, and pick up additional tips from players who've fought him.
Chrono-Lord Epoch (The Culling of Stratholme)
Tick tock, tick tock... Not quick enough! Let's get this over with.
Chrono-Lord Epoch, the third boss in The Culling of Stratholme, is sent by the leader of the Infinite Dragonflight to unravel time by altering key events -- in this case, events in Old Stratholme. He disrupts enemies in battle by slowing and stopping time.
Read more about fighting Chrono-Lord Epoch, and review comments from players who've fought him.
The smackdown
Two Boss matchups are about substance and style, not game play and mechanics. Don't base your strategies on player tactics, and absolutely no game-mechanic nitpicking! Vote for the spirit of the battle as set forth above. Set aside differences in opponents' health pools, game level and actual damage output.
Who wins, and why? We'll see you down below in the comments – can you come up with a convincing scenario that will sway other readers to your point of view?

Time travel > all (except of course LOLDRAIN). Also, nobody said bosses can't kite--that's a gameplay mechanic (threat) not lore. MG kited Arthas the whole flippin' way to Northrend, so to speak. (Okay, that one's a joke, but srsly) Xevozz hardly stands a chance with that in mind.
ZMES_Matt Dec 10th 2009 3:49PM
It's not really time travel though, he just stops things in place, which is -much- different. Xevozz just surrounds himself with his ethereal spheres, and Chrono Lord dies no matter what he does, or is smart enough to flee; it's really his only two options.
Nathan Dec 10th 2009 4:05PM
Okay. So the alien-merchant-person who who got locked up by a bunch of level 70 mages comes out of his prison, and sees a massive, iron-plated dragon from the future with the ability to stop time. And then he throws Arcane Balls at the dragon.
And then, the massive, iron-plated dragon from the future with the ability to stop time stops time, and then smacks the alien-merchant-person who got locked up by a bunch of level 70 mages in the head. And Xevozz dies.
THE END
Time-travelling dragons>alien-merchant-persons. Period.

5 points for style and a little lore, -50 points for game mechanics.
Or is it 50 points...minus?
Undra Dec 10th 2009 4:05PM
Smooth-talking Xevozz sells Epoch on the idea that the Chrono-Lord should die. For a nominal fee, the Ethereal includes a life insurance policy payble to... oh don't worry about that I'll fill it in later for you. Sign here.
catharsis80 Dec 10th 2009 4:05PM
Yeah, this one is hands-down a no-brainer. I don't even want to write about the mechanics and what would happen. Xevozz wins; The End.
ccbutch Dec 10th 2009 4:26PM
Xevozz wins. If Epoch had any ranged attacks it could turn out different but as it stand now the only way he'd win would be if he kited Xevozz around until he runs out of mana thus making the enrage worthless and he doesn't have any healing abilities to last that long.
splodesondeath Dec 10th 2009 5:19PM
Just for future reference...
Are we assuming these bosses act like NPCs and just throw themselves at each other?
Or is it that they act like PCs, and actually do things right, such as kiting?
That's what basically determines every fight.
Massa Dec 10th 2009 5:54PM
What do you think they would do. Put it in a story (if you want--I like them better that way--See vodkamartini below--Freakin genius, had me lol'ing at work the whole time). If you like RP'ing, use those abilities to make it even more interesting.

Chrono Lord Epoch saunters into the arena.
"Convict Xevozz. Ethereal, the death you are destined to visit upon others will this day be your own. There is no future for you. Let's get this over with."
Xevozz, on one knee, rubbing a spot on what could be a shin on a humanoid, just looks up and sighs.
"Oh, a time-traveling lizard has come this far to proclaim my death. Give him 15 minutes and he'll save me on my mount insurance. I must be important. But please. Nothing personal. Before we clash in battle, let's look over the information. We can be civilized beings in this galaxy. Isn't that what your dragonflight wants?"
"Yes, but -"
"According to the Dalaran Street Journal -- which the mages have let me read over the past few years; they really aren't vicious jailers, especially since I gave them a hint to invest in Eternal Life instead of Eternal Shadow and had them acquire Titansteel before it took off -- your dragonflight hasn't had much success. Kill Thrall as a slave? He's visiting Dalaran as a king. Eliminate Medivh before he could open a portal? Ha. A group of guys needing elixir mastery put an end to that. And kill Arthas at Stratholme? The Lich King says 'Fail.'
"And let's review that Stratholme bit. Sure, you can stop time and get all hyperspeed, but the dragons in the hallway before you have killed more '5 guys of bad timing' than you ever have. Has it ever dawned on you to use that time-traveling power of yours to respawn those lizards and have them help you every time you fail to kill Arthas personally? And don't talk about myself. I may be locked up, but it took all of Dalaran to put me away, and whenever I just happen to stretch out of my cell in Violet Hold, there's always five anonymous fools who suddenly go 'Oh frak.' They don't say that for the corehound, the floating genital, the old water crone or those birdbrains in the next cell. Besides, I have a mage who runs numbers for me, and I have a side account in the Dalaran South Shore Bank. It's not just the Goblin Mafia that can run a business inside prison," Xevozz adds, with a winking emoticon forming from his facial wrap.
Epoch is clearly humbled. "I never thought about it that way," he growls. "Hey wait, do you hear a buzzing sou-"
Xevozz jumps Epoch right there with the ethereal spheres placed perfectly, landing the first blow and the last.
"Business concluded," Xevozz said, wiping off dragon blood with his newly acquired shirt that says "Xevozz for Boss Champion '10!" on it. He turns to his mage jailers. "Did you mages record that? I'd ask him to rewind it, but he's dead. We could make a fortune selling the fight recording." He then gloats over the profit these shirts will make, struts and sings as he heads back to his jailers. "I'm, too sexy for my shirt, too sexy for my ..."

I will be voting for Xevozz purely for the quality of this post.
Hats off to you, my favorite cocktail.
Krisnan Dec 10th 2009 6:04PM
just a quick note on the skills
chrono-lord epoch time warp slows by 70%
Xevozz arcane power which since he will not be kitied he will benefit from this skill boosts speed by 75% so xevozz will still be moving 5% faster than epoch even during his time warp.
Skeinchug Dec 10th 2009 7:34PM
This is really one sided and I think it's because people don't understand the mechanics (not game mechanics mind you) of the spells these bosses use.
So only two need clarification because the tooltipped version does not mention these effects or conditions.
The first is Time Warp. Time Warp - Time slows down, reducing attack, casting and movement speed by 70% for 6 sec. Epoch also attacks a party member three times in quick succession during this.
Arcane Buffet: Feasts upon the Energies of the Sphere and increases Damage done.
So to begin Epoch opens up with a time warp. Aside from being a snazzy song he slows down Xevozz and gets three hits in the for 10% each. He also uses his wounding strike for another 10% a a 2% bleed. During this time Xevozz hit him with a melee and an arcane barrage for a total of 30%. Xevozz smiles as he's about to turn up the heat and end this fight quickly. Despite his life force leaving him the wound that overgrown lizard inflicted meant nothing to him meant. Smiling wickedly he begins to summon his spheres when suddenly his body freezes. For a brief moment he struggles to spur his being into motion. In the next instant for him he feels a sharp pain rip through his form and Epoch in the middle of delivering a blow to his chest. His spell casting left him wide open and he takes the hit for a total of 20%. The force of the blow sent Xevozz flying backwards. Xevozz takes the opportunity away from his foe to get oriented. To his dismay he notices that his spheres have fizzled off. Not wasting any time he clears his mind and summons words of power on his tongue. His reflexes kick in while he focuses on his next spell. His hands plant themselves on the ground and he flips himself back onto his feet. As soon as he stops his spell is ready and he throws another arcane barrage at Epoch for 20%. Xevozz is now at 38% and Epoch is at 50%. Not wanting to let up he begins to summon his spheres again. While his wounds are now starting to catch up with him they do not disrupt his spellcasting. Epoch rushes towards him but is not able to interrupt the spell in time. Suddenly he is surrounded by spheres. Epoch sees Xevozz speed up and reacts with another time warp. Epoch knows the spell took effect but notices that his spell still did not fully negate the spell. Knowing he had the upper hand Epoch manipulates his movements to place a blow on Xevozz. Epoch and Xevozz trade blows. Epoch bears his fangs and begins to cackle as he bends time to allow him two more swings. Xevozz draws his energy from the spheres and hits Epoch with an arcane buffet for 30%. Epoch finishes the fight with a wounding strike and the etheral's body disperses and his bandages fall gently to the ground.

Your entire post was full of fanboyism. Everyone an their mother can see this fight is one sided to Xevozz.
Serioulsy i mean who the hell has trouble with the 3rd boss in CoT? he doesnt do much damage appart from those 3 quick attacks when he slows time which even then didnt hurt much when we were all in blues and greens. Xevozz on the other hand WILL KILL YOU if you stay close to him for too long with those arcane balls, btw remind me what kind of fighter is the chrono lord mele or ranged? oh yeah thats right mele..........no matter what the chrono lord does he is out damaged, clear win to xevozz.

No, it's not hard to scroll past one article. But it gets annoying scrolling through all the columns I'm not interested in. Screenshots, multitple lore/RP columns, reader questions - those are off the top of my head. I'm glad for you guys if you like them. But I don't and apparently I'm not the only one.
I like this site and majority of it's writers and their style. Otherwise I wouldn't be reading it. And I don't see anything wrong with requesting features I think would be useful and make users' browsing more comfortable. Those who don't need it won't even know it's there.
Being offended by the fact that someone doesn't like EVERYTHING about your favorite game and downgrading comments because of that on the other hand - that I do think is wrong. Lighten up and get some self-confidence.

Eh that was supposed to be a reply to one of the posts. I wish I could delete/edit here.

For the benefit of everyone who is so fixated on Xevozz' amazing glowing balls . . .
"Let's go over the ground rules:

Don't neglect style, story and scale."
Xevozz may be a very talented white collar criminal, but that's all he is. In fact, he's a criminal who not only got caught, but lost his day in court and got thrown in the slammer! This fight is Bernie Madoff meets the Terminator.
Para Dec 12th 2009 12:09PM
Except chrono lord is nothing like the terminator. He hits for absolutely nothing and is a mele fighter. This fight is so one sided how could anyone even begin to argue against Xevozz winning.

Is it really that hard to scroll on your mouse the little bit down it takes to pass it? You don't even have to click on any buttons once you see the first setense, just continue on your way. That way the people who enjoy can read it, and you don't have to worry about it.
