Armory updates with model viewer, character and calendar feeds

Other updates include character activity feeds -- there are now RSS buttons all over your profile that will let you track achievements, items, and other specific character information via RSS. And Blizzard has also built in calendar feeds that will let you output guild and player calendars to Outlook, Google Calendar, or other calendar applications. That means your out-of-game calendars will update automatically if your raidleader happens to change up the raiding schedule. And finally, character profiles have been redesigned and streamlined -- they look a little different with all of these new features. The date on all of these changes actually says January 1, 2010, so Blizzard may have implemented them a little early, but sooner or later we'll see these welcome changes all active on the Armory.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!
Update: The Armory is offline for maintenance now. These changes were seen in action, so they're real, but as we say above, they're officially dated for January 1st. So they may not be in effect just yet.

Good to see RSS being used, that'll definately come in handy.

I wonder what all will be in it, though. I hope it's not spammy.

So, our calendars can inform us outside the game now? When will they make the calendar inform members inside the game? I'd love for guild members to be notified via popup when they log on after a new event has been scheduled. Right now it's a process of throwing up a new MotD (which is almost always hidden by Blizzard's "Welcome to Patch 3.3! Don't give hackers your password!" notices) and individually informing everyone.
If there's some option I'm missing to make this happen, can someone let me know?

Well the in-game calendar will flash with a gold question mark after there's a new even scheduled. The icon is where the moon/sun used to be on the minimap.

I know that people who get specifically invited to an event will see this. I didn't think it happened for all the guildies when a guild event is scheduled, though. Maybe I've just missed it when the other officers have scheduled events, but I'm pretty sure I've tested it.

The exclamation point will only flash if you have been invited to the event. If it is a sign up or general notice you still have to click on the calendar to see if anything is new.

If you make separate chat windows - meaning completely separate, not tabs in the same window - say one for general chat and one for guild/party chat, you'll always see the guild MotD pop up.
I have mine setup this way not so much for the MotD but more so to keep track of more info (chat + trade or lfg or damage log etc.) and be able to more clearly see guild/party chat without the distractions of anything else.

Just a quick note, when I went to the update page these updates you're talking about were not listed. Immediately afterwards (the next page I clicked on) the armory went into maintenence mode.
Possible mistaken update?

Another update, the Armory is back online, and no signs of the changes. Suppose I'll have to wait for January to try these out.
Looks cool though.

Is it possible now, or will it ever be possible to Switch to your off set gear? That would be nice. I guess as long as you use Blizzard's provided equipment manager it could theoretically work.
Oneiromancer Dec 11th 2009 2:34PM
I would love this as well. They show both talent specs, why not multiple sets of gear?
LeggMyMuoio Dec 11th 2009 2:36PM
I'm not sure the equipment manager stores data online. I'm pretty sure it's local data in which case it wouldn't work. But I could be wrong.
(cutaia) Dec 11th 2009 2:40PM
They could do this without the equipment manager. Wow-heroes, for example, just saves cached data for both specs based on what it last saw you wearing in each spec. Definitely a feature I hope the armory borrows.
osprey0024 Dec 11th 2009 3:47PM
It must store it online, because I have multiple computers that I play on (laptop when out of town or don't feel like sitting at the desk, my wife's laptop, or desktop) and any changes to the equipment manager show up if I log into a different computer. I have been playing on three different computers for about a year now, and have never had to change my EQ Manager saves just because I am on a different computer that day. So, I cant imagine that it would be too hard to implement. The thing that would be confusing would be for people who have more than two gear sets I have (Prot, Ret, Ret PvP, Holy, Holy PvP, Brewmaster, Pilgrims Progress sets, and I am sure I will add another come Winter Veil...)

i hope the iPhone armory app gets updated too..
Malfural Dec 11th 2009 2:51PM
The eu armory is online, but doesn't seem to have changed in any way
Tori Dec 11th 2009 2:54PM
So now people can stalk your character outside of the game? xD
Anyways, some neat additions and it will be interesting to see them once they're up and running.

This is wow armory, not wow facebook.

Armory is back up and information is still there on the updates page. You can also visit my blog here and view all the details in one spot: http://thromka.blogspot.com/2009/12/what-new-for-armory-2010.html

A quick update: The blog post above contains all the information that was prematurely posted on the Armory updates page in addition to the text of both FAQs. While the FAQ links still work, the actual announcement has been removed as of the time of this writing.
