Let's face it: with rare exceptions, good or bad Pick Up Group dungeon experiences usually have very little to do with the dungeon itself. Last night, for instance, I dropped in on
two back to back PuGs as a tank and had solid runs in both cases. But the first run was a silent zerg fest that was only notable in its grim, stormtrooper like efficiency as we basically chain pulled the entire Nexus in silence. Admittedly, as tank, I set the pace, but no one complained as I charged from pack of mobs to next pack of mobs, never stopping for mana and saying nothing. It was as if five inexorable gods had come to visit doom upon the poor inhabitants of Malygos' once-proud fortress. Keristraza was dead within 32 seconds of her release. (No, I didn't actually time it, but it was pretty fast.) We parted ways without much fanfare, all loot sharded and in our bags.
For contrast, the Drak'Tharon Keep run that I did immediately after was a lot more fun. The healer told a continuous stream of awful jokes and kept informing us that she'd never been there before. The enhancement shaman was directionally challenged. I pulled King Dred with all of his adds just to see if I could hold them (I did, but it was pretty hairy even in full TotGC gear) and the druid kept asking me questions about tanking, as he or she wanted to start doing it. ("Uhm... hit swipe a lot? I don't know much about druids.") The second run wasn't as fast or ruthlessly overgeared, but it was a lot more fun.
So what kind of PuG's are you seeing? What has your experience been so far?

I was that person last night - after doing a few HCs I thought I'd try the system with my level 40 hunter. So, fairly quickly got a group for SM that was a little slow (healer kept stopping for mana). I tried to hurry things along as I could solo a mob or two whilst the healer was out. At he final boss I was worried we weren't going to clear the room but the tank said we would... then I accidentally fired a shot at the boss. lol, fail (wipe, ofc) :-)

PuG's are kinda fail IMO because there is no real structure especially when dealing with noobs and ninja's which plague the hell outta PuG's.

'tis amazing, the LFD tool. Leveling is much more fun, and I don't think anyone would have accepted me to tank Forge of Souls without the random dungeon. Instead, I got emblems (no hilt or usable epics tho) and a great experience. And every time someone DCs it takes all of three minutes or less to get replacements (provided the rest votekick the DCers too). Now to try out the new raid quest (Maly today, dunno if I can handle it, it'll be a test for certain)

yes, this is an awesome addition. I could never get in any heroics because no one ever wanted to do them...I recently switched servers, and I have more action there. The only thing that does bother me is the sense of urgency everyone has..let's go let's go..or the tank that just runs and pulls without so much as letting anyone mana up..So, I took this philosophy..if they can't be courteous and let everyone mana, heal, etc..and they pull..then I guess they get what they deserve...because it is not fair for everyone to do that...luckily being a hunter I can feign death, but the other dps and healer have to suffer if the tank dies and they are attacked...a little courtesy goes a long way..I realize we may never see you again, but nonetheless..

I can't agree more. :) And I'm pretty used to fast groups, while it's different with friends. We know each other's playstyles and take the same path in instances (such as Old Kingdom) where it's less linear. But with PuGs, it's nice to remember that maybe not everyone does things that way. And you know, we can mana up every once in awhile (before or after a boss fight, or example - otherwise, I can use a mana gem or evocate, though I have to stand still to do that!!) in groups without replenishment - we can still have a fast run through - I just have to wonder if people are PuGging right before having to go to work or something. :P

when im healing i am usually overgearing content (cept on the new heroics they have some upgrades :D) but i never point out the quality of the dpsing, ive seen some mean things now that pugs are even more annonymous. once the tank kept insulting a hunter over 2k dps versus 3.5-3.8 that the other 2 dps had, and it was in a nexus 0.o
the boot feature is quite nice :)

I have been using the dungeon finder A LOT since it dropped. I have noticed that when I randomly get put into Forge of Soul, or beyond the groups are talkative and usually pretty fun. We always end up chaining all 3 new 5 mans. In contrast, however, whenever I end up in old Wrath heroics there is no talking, no waiting for mana and no fun. It seems most just want to get through the runs which is understandable. I have only dropped groups twice: once for a really bad tank and once for a really bad healer. I have seen tons a players rage quit - it is normally the tank after at very bad pull that ends in a wipe.

9/10 of them are surprisingly really good. I'm already at about 50 emblems of triumph.
Ogri Dec 11th 2009 8:30AM
I've started to notice with the new cross realm LFG that people doesn't seem to bother with (silly/fun) excuses when they leave pug's that are wiping too many times. Like "Gotta go, cat's on fire" or "gtg - getting married in 10 minutes!". Now they just leave since no one will probably remember them and the chance to group with them again is so slim that you take the risk of just being the quite "... has left the group". On the other hand, that's my only bad experience so far with the new system.

How is a stupid excuse better? Last night we recruited people to do some Naxx (stating up front that there would be more clearing than just Patchwerk, which was the weekly), and some douche DK joined the group anyway despite all the other people advertising for just the weekly. The moment Patch was down, "gotta go goldfish drowning bye," then he dropped the group.
The lame excuse (lie) is actually the reason I'll remember him even more in the future.

I Keep getting this whole "Queing for a group" message, perhaps its because its because im Lv69 gosh darn it!!! All i can do is UK!!!! o the Horror i say the Horror, aint even get me the dungeon yet, i just wait in the finder all night, but in 1 level it all changes, ya see?

Before you guys keep voting this comment down, first read it in the style of a Twain era Mississippi hobo, torn shoes, bag tied to a stick over the shoulder, but with a sparkle in his eyes, chasing that ever elusive American dream.
Then it becomes awesome.

I was thinking Foghorn Leghorn, but Mississippi hobo works too.

Mine have been fairly positive so far, if very quiet (except for the group that jokingly threatened to kick me yesterday when they found out I was female, cuz "girls have cooties!" lol).
My only 2 bad experiences were pugging the new ICC 5 mans, particularly PoS. The second time in I died at the same time as the second boss and the group was too busy looting to notice their healer was dead. They actually got ready to pull the next group while I (the healer!) was lying dead on the floor.
Actually I should have let them pull just to see their reaction when they all died.
I've also never spent more than 5 seconds in queue, which is fun. Usually I've got a group within 2 seconds of looking (yes, I've been counting).
Tilt Dec 11th 2009 9:13AM
Why did you have to tell them your gender? It shouldn't matter, unless you want attention.
Hiwa Dec 11th 2009 11:03AM
@Tilt: it was in the context of a joking conversation. And they JOKINGLY replied that they were gonna kick me for 'having cooties.'
Attention indeed, hmmph.
Marita Dec 11th 2009 11:54AM
@Tilt
If someone asks, and you are comfortable with your gender, why is it "attention seeking"?
I'm proud of been a girl, and I never say it unless someone asks me, and if they start to do stupid jokes or things like that, they enter the ignore list and it's deal with.
Now with people been from other servers, that will be a little annoying, but nothing worth paying attention to.
(cutaia) Dec 11th 2009 12:17PM
Tilt,
If she had said they "found out" anything else about her (i.e. "They found out I was blonde, so they joked that I must be ditzy" or "They found out I like heavy metal, so they joked that I should turn down the music and pay attention") would it also be "attention seeking?"
People tend to talk about themselves in the course of a friendly conversation. How is this fact about her any more attention-grabbing than any other.
Maybe you should get out there and meet some girls of your own and you'll realize that being one isn't exactly a big deal to mention (there are several billion of them, you know).

I have been running my level 30-60 toons on chain dungeons now using the system. I have no rested XP left on any of them. I love it for leveling. My only complaint is that you cannot que for a BG while using the LFG tool. If you think about it, it is no different than getting into WSG and then getting the alert that an Arathi Basin is ready. When I am on a dps toon it can take a little while to get into a group and it would be great to kill the time getting some XP in a BG.
camsha Dec 11th 2009 3:21PM
I believe it is far less disruptive when a player hops out of a BG only to be quickly replaced (or not) by another anonymous player, than it is to have your tank say "so long, off to do Strand" right after pulling the second boss in your heroic instance.
