The Queue: What red totem u have

Patch 3.3 is just awesome. The new Dungeon Finder means that not only are you able to run dungeons faster and easier than ever, but you also get the dubious honor of running into any of the myriad crazy people that play this game. Some of those crazy people are me (see above). And, for somebody else, the crazy people might just be you.
Speaking of the Dungeon Finder, we've got an actual topical question for The Queue today. Everybody gather 'round by the fireplace, grab some cocoa, and be educated.
Spriesty asked...
I have a question. Is the new looting system working as intended? I was surprised to see in a group the other night a person win DE mats over a person greeding for an off-spec. So what, we all have to need now, even if it's off-spec, and then trade if needed??
It actually is working as intended! Greed and Disenchant rolls are considered the same roll in terms of priority. This can muck with your attempts to get a specific piece of offspec gear, yes -- so if you know an item drops off of a certain boss that might be offspec for you, just say so ahead of time and ask your party to be considerate.
Hailjh asked...
If you use the Dungeon Group Finder and get a good cross-realm group you like, can you opt to chain run heroics with that group? If so how does that work?
Yes! All that you have to do is have your party leader queue you for another random heroic once you've successfully completed your current one. It should be instantaneous.
Oddly, a lot of groups I've gotten don't seem to know this -- they just disband immediately when the instance is over.
VSUReaper asked...
I was told by a friend that you have to run all 3 of the new 5 mans once to be attuned for the ICC raid, but another friend said the opposite. Which is it?
There is no attunement for Icecrown Citadel. A fresh 80 could walk in if they so desired. It would, of course, be a short visit, though.
Scunosi asked...
Speaking of names and such, I once tried to /w a friend of mine but I made a typo. Instead of him just receiving the typo'd message, I got a message saying that that speech was reserved. Any idea what this means?
This means that there was a phrase or series of letters in the chat you sent that's blocked by the spam filter in-game. Usually they have to do with gold-selling or power-leveling sites. This is why you can't say "my favorite author is Charles Bukowski" or "my talbuk owns," as reader Kia pointed out. As a former talbuk, I rallied to get that one changed, but alas.
Letharginator asked...
Does anyone know of a good add on that takes advantage of the new option to get a list of your completed quests?
I know EveryQuest can give you a list of what you've completed, but I'm looking for something that will show me on my map where quest givers are.
As of 3.3, QuestHelper has an option to track questgivers on your map that have quests you've not yet acquired/completed.
Dodgeballer2005 asked...
About tier 10: Does it drop off VoA's new boss too? The Ice Watcher? Or will there be seperate gear?
Like every other previous Vault of Archavon boss, Toravon will drop Tier 10 legs and gloves.
Alpha5099 asked...
Lore Question: What is the status of the Draenei's mortality? I've definitely seen some sources treat them as immortal, although I don't know if this is just speculation or if there's anything to back this up. There are definitely some incredibly long-lived Draenei: Velen is the most obvious example, but there are some others, like Jessera in Blood Watch who was also alive before the corruption. Are they exceptional, or is it safe to assume that a large number of Draenei are pushing quintuple digits?
All draenei are immortal unless killed. Velen's pushing ten thousand years, as I recall.

What's the deal with the Scarlet Crusade? I thought they were against anything that is against the teachings of the light, particularly the scourge. But in Dragonblight there are shadow priests and death knights in the various bases the crusade has in northrend. Was wondering if I missed anything that explains their change in ideals.

There are a series of dailies dealing with the Scarlet Crusade in Icecrown that will lead to a chain quest with the answers you seek. Or you can read below...

The Scarlet Crusade is a loot pinata faction that is bad because Blizzard said they are bad and because 'moral ambiguity' in this game means you're bad when Blizzard says you're bad and that's final.
"We hate all Undead and will do everything in our power to kill them because of what we did to our homeland!"
Sounds all well and good and is understandable. I wouldn't trust a bunch of supposedly sentient walking corpses if yesterday they ate my sister, and today they're kidnapping my cousin for their experiments.
OH BUT WAIT! WoW's out, and we need some more people to kill. Fuck that morally ambiguous shit. They're Paladins. and they're /evil/. And they're run by /DEMONS/. And they have /Death Knights/. Don't ask why. Just loot their corpses when you kill them, it'll make everything better.
Zanathos Dec 11th 2009 6:51PM
Yes, there's definately some quests you'll come across in icecrown that will illuminate the shift.
Broken_toes Dec 11th 2009 6:56PM
Its basically about fundamentalism, the Scarlet Crusade want to stop the scourge- what with it being evil and all- but what they do goes beyond that. Its more about revenge for them, and a completely black and white issue. They see no difference between the Forsaken and the scourge.
Like mognt t says theres a demon running the Crusade, Not Malganis but Balnazzar ( they look the same). He was the guy sylvannas kicks in to take lordaron, so i imagine he has a grudge. I imagine they're fairly easy to manipulate. "That guy looks a bit dead to me... kill him!"... "I saw a guy from that town talking to a Forsaken...Kill them!" etc.
The Crusade using shadow priests and what not isn't really that hard to grasp, they don't follow the light like your average alliance pally, to them raven priests and all that jazz is just a means to a end. It helps they're cause it must be right.

Mognet is referring to this quest chain, which a lot of people may have missed since it's one of the last group quests in Icecrown.

Let us not forget that they are also incredibly racist/speciest if you will. They had it out for the dwarves even though they’ve been the most loyal allies the humans ever had.
They are flawed at their core because they turned from justice to vengeance. That alone opened them and their leadership to being manipulated by said, dreadlord. It is amazing how when you are driven by hatred how easy it is to throw just about any scapegoat in the mix and people will claw it to death with their bare hands.
Why the light hasn’t already abandoned them, I’m not sure but as has been mentioned, they are using powers outside of the light these days anyhow.
If we haven’t already see this play out with most of the people who have become the BIG BAD-GUYS: Being driven by revenge is going to mess you UP! I’m waiting for Sylvanas to end up as a raid boss for that reason. Even my own beloved king messed that one up when he helped forge the Ashbringer (Magni).
They are my enemies. I have fewer qualms killing them than I do many of the horde.
Squirr3llywrath9 Dec 11th 2009 10:43PM
Interesting. Thanks for all the answers, but now you guys got me thinking. Are there any other major lore based quests I may have missed by stopping questing as soon as I hit 80?
PvtDeth Dec 12th 2009 12:36AM
It's a long and complicated story. Got to wowwiki.com for a full account, but to summarize:
Balnazzar was the leader of the Scarlet Crusade at one time. It's unclear exactly when he took control, but his purpose was to destroy the Scourge (and former Scourge, the Forsaken) as punishment for their failure to subdue Azeroth. That he was a demon was unknown to any within the Crusade as he possessed the body of Saidan Dathrohan. The original purpose of the individuals that make up the Crusade was to eliminate the Scourge. It took very little time to extend that hatred to the Forsaken as well.
As is the case with many such fanatical groups, they began to see anyone not in full agreement with their methods as an enemy, even if those people agreed with their aims. On top of all this, they suspected anyone and everyone outside of their organization of being tainted by the Scourge and in need of culling.
After Balnazzar had been defeated ( in Stratholme) Mal'Ganis infiltrated the Scarlet Crusade (now Scarlet Onslaught) to ensure they stayed on the path Balnazzar had set for them. Perhaps they would have moderated their zealotry left to themselves; Mal'ganis ensured this wouldn't happen by introducing new "blessings of the light" such as the abilities of the Raven Priests.
It's clear that Mal'Ganis and Balnazzar aimed the organization farther and farther from the Light, but each individual had to make the decision to continue down that path. I mention this not only because I believe the whole story to be good fiction, but also because of the fact that it is nearly an allegory for historical events in the real world. It takes very little to corrupt the good intentions of a mob to fit nearly any agenda.
People need constant reminding that people like Hitler ultimately seized power not because of their use of intimidation and assassination, those methods merely set Hitler up to be chosen by the majority in a LEGITIMATE ELECTION. I myself am a member of a religion that forbids violence, most especially for reasons of vengeance, yet this hasn't stopped thousands of self-supposed members from claiming my faith as justification for murder and genocide.
The Scarlet Crusade adopts the very methods it so enthusiastically preaches against. Some see this as a flimsy attempt at introducing the concept of moral ambiguity. If you study the practices of either side of the Cold War, or any of the many sides of the current international war, you might see this "fairy tale" as an apt satire for the world we all live in when we log out.
ScorchHellfire Dec 12th 2009 4:03AM
The thing is at the end of that chain when you face Mal'Ganis he once again ports away and swears that he will have his revenge on Arthas and that we can't defeat the Lich King without the Onslaught's help... so... Did he just give up for no reason? Is he gunna show up during the Lich King fight? What are the rest of the Onslaught doing? Just standing around while the Ebon Blade and Argent Crusade battle through ICC and wishing they had a piece of the action? I don't know... It just seems that that faction has a really open ended story and is now just being neglected... kinda sad really when they've been placed throughout the game so much on several levels of content only to hit a dead end...

"Like every other previous Vault of Archavon boss, Toravon will drop Tier 10 legs and gloves."
You probably want to clarify that like every other VoA boss, he drops the most current tier of gear as of his release. You don't want people thinking that they've changed all the VoA bosses to drop T10.
Broken_toes Dec 11th 2009 7:01PM
What you not hear, the entirety of VoA drops T10 now- even the trash.
What a daft thing to pick up on, some one daft enough not to see what he meant... well they're just daft.
jbodar Dec 11th 2009 7:20PM
@broken_toes
While I agree that the sentence is only mildly ambiguous, the whole "you know what he meant" is a cop-out.

In regards to the first question. I've only seen the DE/Greed combo work on green rolls. Anytime a blue seems to drop, whomever selects Greed gets it. I don't know if the person rolling greed is just getting lucky or what, but that's been my experience so far. I'm actually a fan of the Greed/DE options being tied.
Rin Dec 11th 2009 7:17PM
It will just be a coincidence. If you notice, people who greed and disenchant all roll together at once, which shows in your chat log.
