As a mage, you are one of the only classes who can remove Curses. Learn to Decurse, and do it. Yes, it might make your DPS numbers look a little less impressive, but your group members will thank you when they're not melted into curse-ridden puddles of goo. Especially if the resto druid is too busy healing the tank to worry about Decursing the DPS.

HOLY CRAP. THIS.
I was in a H HoR random pug earlier today, and our tank was having a bit of trouble getting all the mobs together. I was having trouble trying to keep everyone, myself included, alive, so I asked the mage in our group this:
Me: "Would you please help me decurse Curse of Doom? Thanks!"
lolmage: "sry dun have time"
So next time he got Curse of Doom, guess who didn't have time to dispel it... I was just too busy.

Hah yeah! Who says only the healer can spend time de-cursing/spelling/poison...
Also some fights (HoR come to mind) throws out both curses and poisons en masse.. ya know, there's a thing called global cooldown, I can only click people so fast especially when I also want to throw in a heal or two (and spam healing is needed!)
Signed,
resto druid

I've heard the DPS meters are currently broken for cross-servers anyway, so I haven't even been worrying about them. I could be doing 1k dps in instances or 10k. I wouldn't know.

I was taught early in my mage career to Decurse early and often. I can do that as well as Counterspell, Spellsteal and CC, and still rock the DPS charts while managing aggro.
Not only do these abilities make the instances go much smoother, they make them more interesting for me. If I wanted to spend hours spamming two damage keys and drinking, I'd roll up a lvl 1 mage and never leave the starting area.

Mages who refuse to decurse because it'll take up a GCD from their DPS rotation need to delete their toon.

Mages who refuse to decurse should be put in a time machine and sent back to when Molten Core was endgame. There were fights there where decursing was ALL YOU DID.
