Perhaps because the item in question is actually worth a lot of gold, and I'm pretty sure everyone has a "need" for a lot of gold?

I'll say it again: I don't have to give you my stuff just because you would like it for your profession.

Needing something everyone can use when you know that the convention is to greed is just being a ninja. This is not a difficult concept, is it?
