Breafast Topic: Winter Veil is here!

I have a secret to share.
I'm Greatfather Winter.
Nah, just kidding! I don't have the beard long enough to play the part yet.
The Feast of Winter Veil is here! Greatfather Winter is chillin' (get it?) out in Ironforge and is waiting to hear what you guys want this holiday. Winter Veil will last from December 15th, 2009 to January 2nd, 2010. The Winter Veil achievements can be done during this time so be sure to get those finished before it's too late. Otherwise, you'll have to wait another full year before you can finish off the year long What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been achievement for a shiny violet protodrake. Not sure where to start? Check out Allison's OverAchiever: Guide to Winter Veil.
Sadly, this year there are no Crashin' Thrashin' Racers this year (which makes me one sad panda). I'll cheer myself up by picking up massive amounts of snowballs and chucking them at various Horde players (or guildies) in Dalaran. What's the first thing you plan on doing when Winter Veil starts up?

He is attackable in the Halls of Reflection. Good luck!

Ahahaha ... I really want to do this now.
*stocks up on snowballs*
*eyes the Lich King*
*cackles*

Would he really notice? I mean, it's not like he can get much colder... *grin*
Vuoripeikko Dec 15th 2009 8:08AM
I'm going to go and pelt Cairne with some snowballs.
Todd Dec 15th 2009 9:06AM
If you're talking about BB King, then I'm all there! Have to get that last achievement done.
mbeck Dec 15th 2009 8:33AM
Well I had planned on being 1/2 way done w/ the rest of my achievements from last year and that much closer to the Long Strange trip, but since both Blizz and Wowinsoder failed to mention it was a extended maintenance down day, I got up early for nothing. Before you reply saying I should expect downtime every Tuesday - consider this: it says Winter Veil starts at 9am on the in game calendar, odd thing to do if you have downtime scheduled for 6 hours around that. There was no announcement in game bulletin board (are they broken? haven't seen one since 3.3.) and nothing on wow.com about maint. Fail.
Lish Dec 15th 2009 9:03AM
Why did you get up early and plan on having 1/2 of your achievements done if you already knew that Winter Veil didn't even start until 9am?
Todd Dec 15th 2009 9:06AM
@Lish
Different time zone, more than likely.
Creyente Dec 15th 2009 9:27AM
Why wouldn't blizzard have extended maint on the day that they start the holiday? Everyone knows it takes half of their company to upload a flash drive in order to redress all those npc! If they can't even get a patch to come out smoothly what makes you think they can do a holiday any better? G'luck on the Proto-Drake BTW!

lol my first greyed post on wow.com.. kinda funny, considering I actually put some thought into it unlike... ah wth...
as to the question why I got up early.. because like the downtime, it wasn't announced anywhere out of game that it didn't start until 9am (I even tried to google winter veil start time). I just saw it on the calendar when I logged in at 5:30. Most holidays start at midnight at 3am, not sure where they got 9am in the middle of a maintenance from. Again .. Fail and feel free to down vote.
Wyred Dec 15th 2009 10:08AM
Wait, you put thought into that post? Aww, if only I could take back my downvote.
Lish Dec 15th 2009 10:12AM
Ah, so you made an assumption and were wrong. So you chose to get angry at wow.com for not being omniscient and letting you know when the maintenance would happen. Gotcha.
BTW, that's why your original post is getting voted down.
JR Dec 15th 2009 10:23AM
Funny enough, I had reserved time to play WoW this afternoon as well. I keep forgetting that tuesdays are maintenance days. But when I do I don't go around blaming other people for it. Maintenance has happened at this exact same time since I started playing this game 2 years ago, so we only have ourselves to blame. : P
And the calendar saying it starts at 9am does not imply the server will be online at 9am.
Metal0130 Dec 15th 2009 10:40AM
I actually voted you up mbeck because you have a good point! I did expect extended downtime but they should have listed the holiday start time as 11:00 and not 9:00.
Bronwyn Dec 15th 2009 11:29AM
I love how you are mad that Winter Veil start time wasn't announced anywhere when it's been on the game calendar that it would start at 9 for, well, at least 2 weeks. Start checking the in-game calendar.
Chris Anthony Dec 15th 2009 12:01PM
Bronwyn, he's not mad that the WV start time wasn't announced. He's mad that the announced start time was in the middle of a maintenance window that wasn't announced in advance.
Honestly, I downvoted because I can't remember the last Tuesday that didn't have maintenance. It's just one of those things you account for. If the holiday's scheduled to start at 9 AM on a Tuesday, you say "assuming there are just rolling restarts" and operate as though it really starts at 11 AM.

As much as I want that Violet Proto-Drake, the first think I'll probably do when the servers come up is run a few random heriocs. What can I say? It's addicting.
jealouspirate Dec 15th 2009 8:12AM
I'll be trying to complete all the achievements as early in the holiday as possible.
Good luck to all!
Mjrshake Dec 15th 2009 8:14AM
I'm gonna finish the last achievement I couldn't get last year. That damn winter hat kept eluding me.
NOT THIS YEAR!!!!!!!!
