Our friends over at
WorldofWar.de (who were listening live
to the podcast this past weekend) recently got an interview done with Lead Designer Tom Chilton, and you can
read it over on their site right now. There's not a lot of news in there (though Chilton does gush over
the Dungeon Finder,
just as players have for the past week or so), but aside from
the usual player housing deny and the old "we don't know what the future holds" back and forth, but there is one fun thing he reminds us of in
the second half of the interview: Blizzard is adding on to the old
Blackwing Lair instance in
Cataclysm. It sounds like kind of what they've done with VoA: Blackrock Caverns, which we
heard about at BlizzCon, will be a new area (supposedly level 85 5-man, though Chilton says "lots of bosses") inside Blackrock Mountain that's connected to all of the Black Dragonflight bosses in Blackwing Lair.
Finally, Chilton sorta-kinda re-confirms that there will be
a new content patch before the expansion -- he says it probably won't be a numbered patch like 3.4 or 3.5, but he says there may be some more class balances in there,
new Battle.net features, and possibly even a new raid boss. But mostly it'll just be the patch that brings us
all of the world events previous to the
Cataclysm shakedown that we'll all go through. Sounds like fun.
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm will destroy Azeroth as we know it. Nothing will be the same. In WoW.com's Guide to Cataclysm you can find out everything you need to know about WoW's third expansion. From Goblins and Worgens to Mastery and Guild changes, it's all there for your cataclysmic enjoyment.

Don't tease us like that Chilton! Give us a hint as to when that content patch might drop. I want my dwarf shaman to come out!
Ringo Flinthammer Dec 15th 2009 4:46PM
No one cares what sexual preference your dwarf shaman is. Come out, already!
Riley Dec 15th 2009 5:03PM
well, the ratio of male to female dwarves is pretty staggering...
Xavs Dec 15th 2009 4:04PM
I hope it's as awesome as the zombie invasion.
jtrain Dec 15th 2009 4:11PM
It might not be possible to equal the zombie invasion...that event was so full of win even the win had win.
Stormsinger Dec 15th 2009 4:38PM
Best... Event... Ever.
Monsoon Dec 15th 2009 5:23PM
If the Cataclysm event doesn't contain any of the sanctioned griefing that defined the WotLK event, then it will already be better.

Getting killed by zombies made me only hate Arthas more. It was annoying sometimes, but it still was fun. If they add something that makes me care about beating Deathwing as much as the zombie event made me want to kill Arthas, then they're doing something right.
Silversol Dec 15th 2009 9:25PM
There was...
Getting killed by zombies (npcs) roaming around.
And there was...
Getting killed by zombies that were level 70 players camping their own faction's starting zones.

How about as the earth tremors in the lead up to the Cataclysm, critters (cats, dogs, and little furry creatures from alpha-centari) band together and agro on player characters. The minor shifts in the tectonic plates cause them to be come confused and angry (leading them to the dark side). We might need to see a new critter type.. the flying bird/sparrow, and just have flocks of them attack people who stray to close to their nests.
RetPallyJil Dec 16th 2009 10:06AM
Uh ... yeah because they were no longer level 70 Alliance or Horde. They were Scourge.
What did you think a zombie invasion would be like?
Hagen Dec 16th 2009 10:16AM
Oh god, please don't bring up the zombie event. That just turns any thread into a flamefest. Worst event ever, never repeat
bushkanaka86 Dec 15th 2009 4:06PM
New raid boss...hmm. Maybe one of the other dragon's underneath the Wyrmrest Temple?
I am curious about the BWL thing though. Are they adding the 5 man inside BWL so you have to fight through it? Or will it just be another portal near the LBRS entrance? And will we still be able to run BWL in the expansion?
Xetan Dec 15th 2009 4:17PM
New boss will probably just appear in a less used area of one of the old raids like the one that was added to Kara for the Wrath launch.
(cutaia) Dec 15th 2009 4:36PM
I sure hope we get another portal down there soon. Then again, I won't be truly happy until all of them are opened. :D
Riley Dec 15th 2009 5:06PM
This.
I've been wanting them to release a new boss there since 3.1
devilsei Dec 15th 2009 8:45PM
Personally, I'm hoping this raid boss they gonna add in is Garrosh. I've been wanting to smash the sharp end of my axe into his skull ever since I met him in Outlands. I have different reasons why I still want to do that now, but point still stands.
My axe

his face

me happy blood elf pally.
Tbah Dec 16th 2009 4:34AM
We already know that. In BlizzCon, they showed a screen of the Nefarian's throne room with a portal in a doorway. The thing is, with Cat we get flying in Azeroth, and so we can fly directly to the throne room.

VoA: Blackrock Caverns?
I think you mean COT, please include my name in the update :) :) :)
ben Dec 15th 2009 4:23PM
he means VoA. it probably means they are going to be releasing new bosses to the dungeon every patch, so in a way, its a 5-man VoA.
