One other other use for the pommel, while less practical, is to leave a series of cracked skulls in your wake. Not always easy to do, but it'll show the guy who went all out on a breastplate and was stingy on the helm.

Also, viscous magic? You might want to start cleaning out your Materia filter more often, your magic should be much more fluid. Not much else is more embarrasing than getting a Blizzaga all over your new shoes.
