I see some similarity in trying to get this Battered Hilt to trying to get certain mounts.
When you could solo grind for the hilt by killing the skeleton slaves it was akin to trying to catch the Sea Turtle. You could spend a few hours farming for it, and if you were dedicated and patient enough you could get it. I personally spent 6 hours fishing for the turtle until I caught it, and I would happily devote a similar (or greater) amount of time to getting the hilt as well. The nice thing about this method is that I am in control of when I get it. It is still a rare mount so not everybody has it, but it is definitely an achievable goal.
Now the new method is comparable to trying to get Reins of the Blue Proto-Drake. You have to get it from a heroic drop, meaning you can only try for it once a day. And when it does drop, you are likely to be rolling against 4 other players for it. After all the months that have passed, how many of us actually have Skadi's mount by now? Not many, I bet. And it seems to me like this is what will happen with the Battered Hilt.
Now the difference with the mounts is that eventually you will be able to solo Utgarde Pinnacle and that should help your chances immensely at getting the mount, just like grinding for the Reins of the Raven Lord is very possible nowadays. On the other hand, by the time you can solo farm for the Battered Hilt the item would be completely and utterly insignificant.
Another point: I saw in a very recent blue thread that said that even though the chance for the Battered Hilt has been raised, it is still very rare. And looking at the Armory it says that the chance is about 2%. Let's be generous and assume that the chance has been increased by 2% (if it was something like 0.1% before). That would mean that the hilt will be 2% more common... meaning the players who already have it and just want it so they can sell it for gold will only be able to sell it for 98% of what it used to be... So that's supposed to discourage them from doing that because now they can only get 9800 gold for it? Enlighten me.

Your maths are WAY out. If a drop was 0.1% before and now is 2% thats TWENTY times more lightly to drop. So for every person who has one now, there will be twenty people who have it. Shrinking the market for it considerably will reduce the price far more than you seem to indicate. So please brush up on your math skills - because what you posted is completely wrong.
