To say the gear check is forgiving is an understatement. I've been able to enter all the new icc 5mans with my tank alt ever since I reached enough gear to have about 27K hp. I've seen bear tanks with 50k hp get pretty low in Pit of Saron and Halls of Reflection at times, so I'm happy that they have never come up as the daily random hc for me. And yes, I know a lot of the damage can be avoided if everyone works together, but expecting that from a pug is a bit unrealistic.
