You definitely didn't need 8.7k dps to do this. My 10-man guild did it the first week on 10-man and we've never even cleared heroic Northrend Beasts, or done much of 25-man. Sure, we had emblem gear and some 25-man gear, but most of our gear is 10-man gear. Using one tank was still a pretty easy way to do it.
