Can you not spread the entire story up on four pages?
I understand that you need your ad revenue, but doing it like that is really sad. A lot of blogs do it, and I always figured WoW.com was one that strayed away from it.
That story could of easily fit on two pages.

I agree that it shouldn't have been four pages (three would have been better, keeping number by itself on page three).
I strongly disagree with the idea that it's for ad revenue. I doubt that ever even crossed anyone's mind.
This type of breakup is to build suspense and antici.... ... ....pation. Most places that routinely post top ten lists do it (check out Cracked.com).
