Time is always a limiting factor for guild leadership. My officers and I were always looking for ways to stay connected and organized even when we could not be online. We tried website forums, e-mail, instant messenger and even phone calls. Eventually it got to the point where I was having to reach out to each of them individually for opinions, listening to each and making a decision based on what I heard. It was very frustrating.
Recently though we have begun to use Google Wave, an online collaboration tool. It is kind of like e-mail or forums, but allows us to create inline comments and discuss topics and adjustments we need to make in both a synchronous and asynchronous form. I would highly recommend this tool for casual guilds looking to continue operations even with limited time.
