I was in a guild with a similar problem. To avoid burnout of a new GL the officers met and agreed to rotate the GL role between them every couple of months. Guildies were told who the GL was and who was next in the rotation and when.It may not work for all but it does give breathing space, uses existing known members, and allows officers to try the role to see if it fits in with RL for them.
