Anglers get enchanted in patch 3.3

This new formula finally allows fishermen to overwrite those gloves enchanted with the tested (but tired) Formula: Enchant Gloves - Fishing and pump up their maximum fishing skill just a little bit more. The enchant requires 1 Infinite Dust and 3 Ethereal Oil, an alchemical solution derived from Glassfin Minnows. This puts the enchanting bonus up to par with most passive fishing bonuses. Enchanted gloves previously conferred the lowest bonus compared to those in other slots.
Patch 3.3 is the last major patch of Wrath of the Lich King. With the new Icecrown Citadel 5-man dungeons and 10/25-man raid arriving soon, patch 3.3 will deal the final blow to Arthas. Seems kind of pointless since virtually all the fishing that matters any more doesn't actually require the fishing skill.

Yeah, I read this and thought a big "So F'in what?" because they changed it so anyone with a twig and some string could fish up the lurker below or the Mr.Crabby type pet.

I don't know if you read that as QQ or what, but Zach specifically said this would help with the Kalu'ak contest, which is won by fishing in pools. This doesn't help that, and virtually any other fishing you'd be doing, at all, since the fishing skill is no longer applicable to both of those circumstances.

people still fish? anyway why would this help? if i can fish in pools and get the fish constantly with nat pagles pole and 320 fishing with no lure how does this enchant help :|

There is some speculation that the chance of catching a Blacktip Shark is increased with fishing skill, though obviously since the contest is only 2 weeks old there's no confirmation on that.

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but I thought that anyone, regardless of level, can fish anywhere now? And not even that, but you can actually fish up fish, not just junk, right? If that's the case, do we even need to worry about enchants or gear that increases your fishing skill? Or maybe it was a change that was discussed but didn't make it to live servers...dont' remember.
J Dec 22nd 2009 3:20PM
That only applies to pools if I'm not mistaken
Camo Dec 22nd 2009 4:39PM
Only pools and only level 5+

max fishing skill from fishing up coins in the fountain + kalu'ak fishing pole + fishing hat = will five points really matter? really?
Risa Dec 22nd 2009 3:46PM
Depends on how and where you fish. 5% will matter at times. Even with max fishing, the blue fishing helm (without using the free bait), the boots and the STV tourney pole, once in a while one will get a grey catch. When doing the fishing daily only one quest requires you fish from a specific school.
If you are fishing in Wintergrasp you want to maximize your fishing potential in the event you are attacked by the opposite faction.
Sure for some it won't matter but it will for others. Time is money and the less greys you fish the more you can earn from it.

450 fishing skill
30 from the fishing pole
5 weather beaten fishing hat
100 fishing lure (or 75 free from the hat)
----
585 points
5% would be a bit, five points is pretty lame, especially when you will never fish up trash from a fishing school no matter your skill. i fail to see the point except to get the highest possible fishing skill obtainable, which i can see people doing just for that reason. not hating on the fishers of azeroth, just wondering why the fishing enchants that contribute so very little to the game overall (even for fishers) already are two and now five points. i mean the enchant is bop. make it fifty or something worthwhile.
Metatron Dec 22nd 2009 3:17PM
umm.. considering the prince is the one who pops out of the sewers, shouln't the fishing pole be held the other way 'round?
Todd Dec 22nd 2009 3:34PM
Which Tier is he wearing in that pic?
Aurix Dec 22nd 2009 3:44PM
That's totally a sneak-peek at t11 Paladin gear.
Valtor Dec 22nd 2009 5:05PM
Oh no! NO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...
Et Tu Disney?
ZMES_Matt Dec 22nd 2009 3:21PM
*shock*gasp*awe*
Brune Dec 22nd 2009 3:29PM
Since anyone can fish from pools now with 100% success, this won't actually help you in the fishing contest in anyway.
Errorah Dec 22nd 2009 3:33PM
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't higher fishing skill shorten the time between cast and loot window?
Raze Dec 22nd 2009 3:44PM
Nope. Its only in-game function right now is your success rate of non-junk casts in anything that is not a pool. The time it takes for a fish to appear is irrelevant of your fishing skill.
Anonymous Dec 22nd 2009 3:45PM
No.
