The
comic adaptation of the popular, award-winning web series
The Guild is
now available for pre-order from Things From Another World (TFAW). Published by
Dark Horse, the comic is written by series creator and actress
Felicia Day herself and drawn by indie comic artist
Jim Rugg, who drew the
Plain Janes graphic novel. The first issue will be available in two variant covers done by Cary Nord and
Georges Jeanty.
Readers will learn about the origin of the Knights of Good, as the comic
chronicles Cyd's life before she joins the guild, how she became Codex, and how she meets her fellow guild members. The story includes tidbits not found on the web series, making it a delight for fans and serve well as an introduction for those who have never watched the show. The 32-page comic is scheduled to hit the stands in March 24, 2010, and will sell for $3.50.

Felicia Day isn't too bad on the eyes to look at and seems to have a handle on geek culture. Or good handlers.

That, and the writing is good, and for what is technically a low-budget deal, it's professionally well done.
Plus, you can't fail with Vork around. It's mathematically impossible.

I have a question, sort of.
I've never watched the Guild. I never intend to, either, so maybe I'm missing out on something. But really, why all the focus on it? Blah Blah Felicia Day Blah Blah Hot. She's not all that, you know. Plus the song? Ugh, made me rip my ears off.
I bet if she wasn't in it, it'd have half the audience it does now.

Don't knock it til' you try it bro. It is well made for a low budget deal, the characters are all believable and unique and quite funny. Plus, your comment about the song is akin to judging a book by its cover.
Also, yes I would still watch it if Codex were played by a different actress. However, the fact that Felicia Day plays the role she wrote for herself so well is part of what makes the show so popular. To say she identifies with the character would be an understatement. It also puts a very human light on her that somehow makes her even more attractive.
I don't watch the show because Felicia Day is hot, I watch it because she is a beautiful and very funny person. The other actors & actresses notwithstanding.

Well you could just give it a try. I stumbled on it entirely by accident only a few months into my wow addiction and it was just so Spot On and hilarious that I'm a fan.
I certainly hope it's not all about Felicia's looks. I'm a straight female and can't really say that's the draw for me. The writing is just THAT good and I enjoy the celebration of geek-culture while also having a good chuckle at my own expense. :-)
It's not everyone's cup of tea but it's success just shows that there are a lot of people who will drink that tea in as many flavors as possible. :D /shrug /facepalm's self for lame metaphore

My opinion on the Guild naysayers is, if you don't like it, don't watch it.
Now with that out of the way, I personally love The Guild. The writing is pretty sharp (the acting isn't the BEST, but probably better than most web series I've watched). I think the reason it is as popular as it is owes to the fact that the fans can connect with the characters in someway, whether on a deeply personal level or seeing the people they play with. I see bits of myself in every character and thats what keeps me watching the show every week (or at least when it is running).
Now, as for Felicia Day, I have tremendous respect for her. I mean, look at the number of web series out there and try to count how many of their actors/writers have had ANY mainstream appeal. Now I'm not saying that we will see a full Guild TV series anytime soon, but I think it speaks volumes of the series success that she appeared on the Jimmy Fallon show. It also seems to me that this was a deeply personal project for her seeing as that she wrote the role of Codex for herself.
The other reason that she is as popular as she is the simple fact that she is very approachable. She has a good knowledge of geek culture and is very thankful for all of her fans. I had the pleasure of meeting her at Comic-Con and I can tell you from personal experiences that she is hands down one of the nicest people I have met.
Back to the topic though, I am looking forward to The Guild comic. I pre-ordered mine not too long ago and I made sure to request that my local comic shop pick it up.

I can't wait. I love any excuse I have to walk into a comic book store as an adult female. Always entertaining. ;)
I like the guild for a lot of the same reason's I LOVE Big Bang Theory.
It seems to me that just about anything I've seen Felicia in I have enjoyed. Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog was WIN! The girl got to kiss NATHAN FILLION (love everything he's in as well) for the love of ANVILS!

I like The Guild. Really, I do. It's got geek culture, it's got a very talented cast, and it still mostly has that whole indie feel to it.
But a comic? What's next, The Guild: The Movie?
There comes a time when you have too much of a good thing, and going mainstream.. especially for something like this.. isn't exactly a boon. Heck, look at WoW.. comics, manga, cupholders, a movie coming up, and more and more the storylines they're concocting feel forced or contrived and detract more from the game/lore than they add.

I have to agree with the few (not surprisingly) downvoted comments... A comic, seriously? What next, a board game? I have watched The Guild, the entire first season and after the first few episodes it became quite jarring to watch in my opinion, but I forced myself through it hoping it would get better... It didn't. I just can't find stalkers (Zaboo) and bad parenting (Clara) funny no matter how I try.
Hey, if you like The Guild and their style of humor/writing, then good for you. You're free to like it, and yeah, nobody is forcing me to buy their stuff, but I'm amazed if this comic actually manages to turn any profit - which I believe it is supposed to do.
