The Queue: I'd rather be playing WoW
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com's daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky be your host today.
Let's be honest. The holidays are fun and everything. Getting together with the extended family, having some good food, sharing in each other's joys -- good times all around. But there gets a certain point where you just want to say "Enough is enough already, let me go do something I want." Is it a bad thing if that's already happened to me?
Today's holiday listening music is from the Vince Guaraldi album A Charlie Brown Christmas. It's one of my favorites, Guaraldi is a masterful piano player and creates one of the most iconic jazz performances out there. It's one of those songs that you can hear and immediately place it as coming from Charlie Brown.
Possum asked...
"How do I cross-server ignore someone?"
You should be able to just right-click on the guy's portrait and select "Ignore." Some people have said typing /ignore username-servername works, but others have said it hasn't.
I can't 100% verify that it works, but I know that I've put a few terribads on my ignore list and haven't gotten them again. Like that rogue I grouped with twice who insisted on pulling for me, because he was in all blues and greens and I was in full tier 9, and I could "just AoE taunt" off him as a paladin... yeah, right.
Eric asked...
"Recently I've noticed a long list of words that flash in the left hand side of my WoW client window when the program initially starts. Any idea what all that stuff is or why its flashing on my screen?"
As other people have commented, the general consensus is that it's the config file loading. We don't know for sure however. WoW hung on load once for me and I noticed it there, and it was definitely config file variables, but it could be other stuff too. Either way, it's not hurting anything so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Lichborn asked...
"When is the new battle.net stuff (friends lists and all that) supposed to be released?"
No time-frame has been given yet, however I'm sure it'll come out in 2010. My guess is that it'll either come out shortly before the Cataclysm patch (patch 4.0.2), or with the actual Cataclysm launch.
Psiwave asked...
"Do you expect to see additional content released with the new wings in Icecrown? For example do you think we might see a scourge counterattack on the crusade or Dalaran, or are we now seeing Northrend as the expansion will leave it?"
Anything is possible. I don't think the opening of additional wings would trigger any world events. We know that there's going to be something as Azeroth gets torn asunder with Death Wing's revival, leading up to the release of Cataclysm. But we don't know many details yet.
Cool idea though. I just wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it to happen.

I tried to ignore a player from another realm using /ignore player-realm and it said player not found. I was told you would have to have them chat in the social box or right click their name. But as most people aren't really chatting in my pug's and when they ninja they party quit seconds later its hard to ignore them. I hope Blizz implements something better to prevent players from having to run with these people again.

You should get a notification when the ninja drops group, though, and you can use that to right-click from. I assume.

That "Player not found" thing must be related to some sort of bug. Every time I hop into a pug (which is quite often lately on my resto shaman as I'm SO SO close to getting the pet), I see three or four instant alerts about "Player so and so is not found", even though they're in my party standing right in front of me.
I figure it will be fixed soon.

I use WiM for chatting in tells, nice lil addon that places tells in a box with tabs and such, very much like AIM or other IM programs.
A cool little feature of this addon is the buttons on the side of window, which allow you to invite to group, friend, or even ignore. I simply send a tell to them, get the error in the tell window saying "player not found" and then click the ignore button. Works like a charm, even if they say nothing in chat.
Awesome addon even without that cool little feature.

That's probably a unit frame addon trying to /who someone from another sever (which you cannot do). I know Vuh'Do and PitBull have problems with that when I have them enabled.

I suggest helping the cause by replying in my thread about issues concerning the ignoring of cross-server characters at:

Any suggestions/constructive criticism or even a simple /signed would be wonderful.

Apologies, please downrate my previous comment as it is the incorrect thread link. It is really:

Stealing a reply to say something
The new Battlenet is NOT going to come out with cataclysm, it is going to come out soon before or with Starcraft 2, basically the only reason SC2 isnt out is because Battlenet isnt ready....

I've also noticed I can't pst cross-realm people. Tried to apologize to a player on behalf of our drunk guild healer, but it said "player not found when I tried to send it.

On a related note: Since the new patch I have not been able to add ANYONE to my ignore list, even those on my server. I even completely emptied it but all it says is that I can't ignore any more players. I opened a ticket and got an automated reply saying pretty much nothing. >.>
noell.sweet Dec 23rd 2009 4:08PM
Maybe it's just me, but I don't have an "ignore" option in the drop down menu when I right-click on someone in a PuG who's on a different server. Also, there is a whisper option, but whenever I go to wisp them, it says "Player Not Found", or whatever the heck the text says.

I can see it now. The Scourge distracts players from moving forward in icecrown.... By opening dance sudios in Dalaran!

Well, a fun idea but not much sense in lore and game.
First, Arthas' attack on Azeroth failed miserably and only united his enemies., Naxxramas has fallen, again! Grats, everyone, great job there :-)
And, one crucial part of lore about fighting the Scourge in Ice Crown is Thassarian's (Alliance side) quests. Another crucial part is the Shadow Vault quest chain that eventually leads you to face Bloodbane. The faction daily quests asking you to attack Ymirheim are also very interesting.
Once you've done most of the quests, you could get the impression that Horde/Alliance/Argent Crusade/Ebon Blade troops have been gradually chiseling away the fighting capability of the Scourge. Most importantly, every tactical advantage the Scourge had previously (and newly developed too) has now been checked by effective counter-measures.
There is no surprises at all that in the trailer, Tirion is about to knock down the very door of Arthas' un-living room, because Arthas now has no other forces left and has no other places to go!
Well, if he hasn't realized that his show has ended and does not want to bow out, we are just going to kick him off the stage :-)

Who wouldn't want to dance to music crooned by Brohnjahm, godfather of souls. . .

Heigan the unclean already taught me how to dance. :D

It also doesn't work well with people who have special character letters in their names. Blizzard should disallow those and force them to use another letter instead.
tatsumasa Dec 23rd 2009 4:27PM
as a player who has two characters with ascii characters in their names, i can tell you it most certainly does work. it used to not be allowed, but since those 'special character letters' are actually letters blizzard has changed their policy to allow them. i don't know why they would go back on that now. it's not blizzards fault you think the world revolves around the american keyboard. but trying to ignore my dk 'táveren' by typing '/ignore taveren' won't work because that's NOT her name. if you hate my tanking so much that you never want to run with me again though, feel free to ask me for the ascii code, ask me to say something so you can right-click ignore, or go look it up yourself.
