The Sacred and the Corrupt, Light's Vengeance
Be warned: This post, as well as the video above, includes minor spoilers for Patch 3.3's Shadowmourne quest chain. If you don't want to be spoiled, do not read/watch.
We've featured a video showing off this stretch of the Shadowmourne questline before, the bit where you retrieve Light's Vengeance, but I would hardly call The Sacred and the Corrupt old news. It's still a quest just about every class that can wield two-handed is thinking about. Unfortunately, not everyone will be able to witness this amazingly epic quest themselves.
Because of that, I set out to try and get a better recording of the quest for everyone. There were some successes, like actually being able to record the sounds and voice acting. There were also some failures, like my inability to do the quest completely without my UI. Here's a tip: When you turn off most of your addons to improve the quality of your recording, don't forget that some of those addons controlled your stun/interrupt keybinds. You usually need those. I'm sorry, Clique. I didn't mean it. Come back to me, please?
It's not perfect, but hopefully it will give you all a better look at what goes on here. Enjoy!

i managed to do this on my fury warrior it was fun died the first time.but the second time around i used my CDs and managed to solo it with 300 hp left lol
Mister EDgAr Dec 23rd 2009 1:12PM
Why do I have the feeling that only Plate wearers can solo this? Looks fun tho
Falcon6 Dec 23rd 2009 1:16PM
Well, only plate wearers can get the quest in any case.=P
Yrmes Dec 23rd 2009 1:23PM
I thought I'd seen a video on here before of an Enh Shaman doing the quest. Was that just a fluke of the ptr or something?
Strahl Dec 23rd 2009 1:32PM
It's not restricted to plate wearers. It's a 2h weapon. Anyone that can wield a 2h axe can do it, including enh shamans.
Strahl Dec 23rd 2009 1:34PM
Disregard. Just checked class restrictions.
Falcon6 Dec 23rd 2009 1:58PM
I think the PTR didn't have the class restrictions, more or less so they can get more people to test it.

This looks pritty cool

What add-on is doing the high-visibility pop-up of "Art of War!" I'm relatively new to Retadinning, and I'd love that...

I couldn't tell because I watched the video on a phone screen, but PowerAuras is an addon I've used to alert when an ability is usable, or a buff is present, or a buff is not present ... you get the point. I've used it for Art of War procs as well as Rime and Killing Machine on a DK and many many other things.
Definitely check it out.

It's Mik's Scrolling Battle Text, or MSBT. Though I haven't updated it since 3.3 hit, so one of my filters is broken and my heals are showing up right in the middle of my screen instead of off to the side where I want it.

Fantastic addon, BRK used to use it as well.
All the cool kids are doing it.

"every class that can wield two-handed"
Class restrictions suck ass. So many cool things that half the playerbase (or more) will never see as a result. Or maybe alt-itis will overcome it.
I was quite happy that the "Battered Hilt" led to quests and gear for any class, not just "one almightly weapon for classes x, y, and z".

I really wish Blizzard would make an in game video recorder for Windows like they have for Mac. It would have made your recording a lot easier to do since it allows you to record without the UI. You see your UI but the video doesn't pick it up. I used to make tons of movies when I was playing on my MacBook because of that. I'm not sure what the technical limitations are that prevent them from doing it, but it seems like it would be a really useful feature.

When I ran the quest, Arthas didn't summon any little ghouls. I just killed a skeleton with about 80k HP, ran and touched the hammer a couple of times, then I was able to loot it....
Very lackluster.

damn..... Shadowmourne really has me wishing my main was a 2-hand melee dps.... :(
I'll get started on the quest on my DK sooner or later but he'll never get Shadowmourne, I hope he'll at least be able to get Shadow's Edge.

The most expensive part of the beginning of this quest chain imo is going to be the 25 Primordial Saronite. On my server they still go for 1.5k each. Or if you go through badges. It would come out to 575 frost badges.
darian Dec 23rd 2009 5:04PM
1.5k? Holy crap!
The blasted things are still 5k on my server. :(
avengement Dec 23rd 2009 5:16PM
Buying the Primordial Saronite was not cheap for my Fury Warrior. Thank god for JCing.

I got pretty badly smeared the first time I tried this in PvE arms gear- while normally the "annihilate them all in a bladestorm and then scoop lewtz" approach works admirably in such situations, what doesn't initially show is the fact that these adds spawn like tribbles on viagra. I had much better success in tank gear / prot spec, largely by virtue of being able to simply backstrafe them all, shockwave, and then click the hammer while they're stunned.
