Breakfast Topic: Lamented Mechanics

For instance, I wish there were tanking fist weapons. I love, love, love fist weapons. I'd settle for a fist that had hit and expertise on it, even. But while I'm willing to switch to a slow main hander when I have a full rage bar to dump as Devastate threat (or for huge Cleaves when tanking lots of trash) it's just not really suitable for a good 80 to 90% of my time tanking. And yet, how I love fist weapons. I have an enhancement shaman, of course, and yet fists almost never drop for him (he's using axes at the moment) while they rain from the heavens and are almost constantly sharded when I'm tanking. I've taken to just picking them up and using them for fun. I understand there will most likely never be a dedicated tanking fist, as the only class that could use it would be a warrior (Paladins and DKs can't use fist weapons, Druids can but would almost never use one over a staff since they can't use shields).
Similarly, whenever I go elemental I always end up drooling over caster swords, and there have been a few times I've heard paladin healers sigh at a dagger drop. So what I turn to ask you is, what do you wish you could use? What drop can you either not equip or just can't effectively use?

I wish Warrior's taunt did damage like a Paladins so I could use it to tag mobs. I wish Charge did damage so I could have a mob tagged as soon as I charge and not after. I mean, I'm slamming into them with my body.
I'd be happy if both did 1 damage and never did more than that. Just 1 point of damage to tag them. There's been plenty of times I've charged something at the same time someone else threw a spell and didn't see it. They walk off 'cause now I've got the mob targetting me. And they get a free kill. /sigh

Taunt Does tag mobs, Im pretty sure charge does as well. Ever since around patch 3.1. Any ability that causes a mob to agro you tags it.

I want librams to ve visible, god dammit!!
And I would love intellect two-hand maces.

One thing i miss from my old game, FFXI, is how some mobs were "weak" to certain weapons. For example, birds weak to piercing (like arrows, or daggers), skeletons weak to blunt weapons, etc. In FFXI this was partly bad, because each class had a weapon proficiency cap (imagine that at level 80, in some weapons you could only skill up to 350 or to 380). But here in wow, where classes can use many different weapons, and all with the same potential proficiency. It could make weapon use a bit more varied (it's a bit disappointing everybody using the same weapon at all times).

I agree on the tanking fist ideas. One of my biggest problems with Titan's Grip is that it took away my dual-wielding fist weapons. Something about being a pugilist fueled by his anger made me happy to be a fury warrior.
I have several paladin and druid friends who always complain to me when I get a new tanking ranged weapon that their ranged slot is so inferior... which is isn't anymore. I'd kill for a good set bonus sometimes.
And Spirit gear makes my caster shaman heart cry.

its ok if your tank is a warrior soon you'll be able to Dual Wield 2 hander fist weapons with your four hands

My main is a Prot War, and on her first-ever dungeon run (Deadmines, of course, since she's a Night Elf), Cookie's wand dropped. That was when I truly realized that while I could equip and make use of EVERY OTHER SINGLE DAMN WEAPON IN THE ENTIRE GAME, wands would forever be some mystical bit of mumbo-jumbo that my thick-as-a-rock tank would barely deign to take up a slot in her bags on the way to the vendor--let's not even discuss putting it that ranged slot.
Cap Dec 27th 2009 12:56PM
I know a slot where you can stick that wand, Sleu...
Also, I hate you forever because whenever we ran my mage or lock through Deadmines, all Cookie ever dropped was the mace...
And druids and priests should be able to use swords.

I wish my rogue could use staffs. I now there's few if any staffs with rogue stats on them, but still, it's got 2 ends for 2 poisons and I'd like to ambush people with a big stick. 2 handed swords would be nice too, but I think SinStrike and Hemo would need to be balanced.

I wish some class would use staves for melee. I remember when I was first leveling up my shaman, there was a brief period where I was wielding a staff, and I quite liked whacking mobs with it, particularly given the great twirling animation Draenei use. I think they're a very cool weapon, but they only ever get used as stat sticks, which makes me sad.
I also just wish there were more fists around. I used the Borean Smasher for most of my Northrend leveling, but since upgrading from the Unholy Persuader, I've been wielding axes or maces almost the entire time. I missed out on the early mid-game, so I never got to experience the heyday of Greed/Pride and Kel'Thuzad's Reach/The Stray, and fists seem to have become rarer as the expansion has progressed (probably because Frost DK's are in the mix and can't use them). I've got a Seven-Fingered Claw (and I'm very upset there isn't a matching off-hand), but I'll probably be replacing it as soon as I get a second Black Icicle, so my only hope for fisty goodness is getting into some ICC raids.

I /danced with glee when I won the crossbow from PoS. It wasn't a "real" bow, but dammit - it wasn't a GUN!
WTB MOAR BOWZ!
Tirrimas Dec 27th 2009 11:24AM
For heaven's sake - this was a reply to the Hunter lamenting the shortage of bows in endgame. Bah.
Sicadastra Dec 27th 2009 11:45AM
I'm with you, on both the lack of bows and broken comment system.
I know guns are part of the "lore" as introduced in WC3, and I can kinda see them in a dwarf's hands, but I just think bows fit the overall world better. I don't think I've had a bow since level 50 unfortunately. There is that new sweetass one in ICC though... *drool*.
Artificial Dec 28th 2009 3:21PM
"but I just think bows fit the overall world better"
Actually, they don't. Or rather, it makes sense that they're still around, but people ought to look at any bow-user like they're some old-fart who can't let go of the past.
I suspect you're suffering from the delusion that Azeroth is a *medieval* fantasy world. It isn't. Any tech you seen in the world that's not at least 17th or 18th century is really out of place, a throwback to a bygone age. Because so many people expect that in any fantasy world, it gets thrown in, but it's really out of place here.
Gracandrea Dec 27th 2009 11:30AM
As a pally, I'd love a crossbow. :)
nekorion Dec 27th 2009 11:31AM
WTB caster fist ;]
Eternauta Dec 27th 2009 11:50AM
Blizzard should get rid of leveling weapon skill. It's a boring pointless grind.
I mean, casters don't have to learn "spell skill" to not miss with spells. So what's the point in making the melee life more complicated than it is already (we suffer from all the friggin' AoE bosses cast, isn't that punishment enough for choosing a melee class?)
They should make it like riding skill that when you learn to wield a new weapon it's skill level is already 450/450. So we don't have to pointlessly hit and miss mobs around Azeroth and wasting our time.
Camaris Dec 27th 2009 12:38PM
This. Weapon skill feels like it never changed since classic Beta. It serves no purpose, and I'm sure no-one finds levelling weapon skill a relevent or interesting piece of gameplay.
NecDW4 Dec 27th 2009 11:51AM
Arms Staffs might be neat. And i agree completely with wanting tanking fist weapons, the models are just so damn cool looking most of the time.
Tairne Dec 27th 2009 12:02PM
I wish shaman could use swords. From the day I started playing back in 2005, that has been my biggest wish.
With how many sword drops there have been in raiding over the years, it's completely ridiculous that we can't, especially now that rogues can use axes.
