Breakfast Topic: Lamented Mechanics

For instance, I wish there were tanking fist weapons. I love, love, love fist weapons. I'd settle for a fist that had hit and expertise on it, even. But while I'm willing to switch to a slow main hander when I have a full rage bar to dump as Devastate threat (or for huge Cleaves when tanking lots of trash) it's just not really suitable for a good 80 to 90% of my time tanking. And yet, how I love fist weapons. I have an enhancement shaman, of course, and yet fists almost never drop for him (he's using axes at the moment) while they rain from the heavens and are almost constantly sharded when I'm tanking. I've taken to just picking them up and using them for fun. I understand there will most likely never be a dedicated tanking fist, as the only class that could use it would be a warrior (Paladins and DKs can't use fist weapons, Druids can but would almost never use one over a staff since they can't use shields).
Similarly, whenever I go elemental I always end up drooling over caster swords, and there have been a few times I've heard paladin healers sigh at a dagger drop. So what I turn to ask you is, what do you wish you could use? What drop can you either not equip or just can't effectively use?

I really wish that Ret paladins could dual wield. I know lore-wise it doesn't make an incredible amount of sense but ever sense my early "noob" era when i leveled my Ret pally to 60 using a sword and shield (this was only a year ago mind you) I've always thought it would look particularly badass.
Also, let hunters use maces.... please?
Shima Dec 27th 2009 12:12PM
there should be more specific polearms, like polearms and double edged. one for 2H and the other for dual weild...that would be awesome, and also an incentive for them to make shamys weild polearms (or double edged D:); that would work for rogues as well. tow tip/edge = two poisons/enhancements/enchants/etc
and like i said, DK no moar :D

Two-handed healing maces. Why does a Holy Paladin need a shield? And why aren't we wielding great big maces like paladins should? Make it happen, Santa!

I'd like to see the removal of Feral Attack Power on weapons druids can't use. Either that, or let ferals dual wield fist weapons. Just fist weapons mind you, we don't need all the other stuff, since big bladed claws seem like they would fit pretty well.

Honestly? All I really want is to be able to stab people with the giant bayonet that Blizzard has thoughtfully put on the muzzle of my gun. Take away my melee weapons. Please, get rid of my statstick, make the other classes stop crying at me. They can have the swords, polearms, axes, staves, whatever. I don't want them.
Let me get some new abilities, maybe some melee tricks with our ranged weapon - you know, like a 0-5 yard stun and a melee range knockback... Or, hell, let us fire our ranged weapons in melee range. That could work too.

I wish several item/event-related shapeshifts weren't cancelled by druid forms. Nothing spoils the fun of running around as a glowing gorilla like realizing I can't fight someone looking like that. Similarly, I would have loved to go around killing people as a little gnome for xmas, but it goes away as soon as I try to be useful.

I wish there were a tanking Quel'delar.
Eternauta Dec 27th 2009 5:29PM
This^
Big Shoe Dec 28th 2009 10:09AM
I agree wholeheartedly. As it stands, the most I can look forward to is a Quel'delar for off spec use, which I would not even roll on because so many guild mates would want it for their main specs.
Fletcher Jan 16th 2010 11:00PM
There is ... it's called Quel'Serrar.
Thock Dec 27th 2009 2:52PM
I find this topic irrelevant being a hunter, since all loot is hunter loot :-P

Well, responding to the original topic of mechanics and "Gee I wish X"... I hated, HATED playing my paladin because of the seal/judgement mechanics. HATED it. So much that I stopped playing the toon, and stopped paying any attention to the class, because the mechanic seemed like a fundamental concept of the class.
Well, that was a long, long time ago. I just now dusted the toon off, and it seems the changes I wanted have been sitting there waiting for me for a long time. Seals last a lot longer, and the judgements no longer consume them. So I don't have to spend the whole time going 1-2, 1-2, 1-2 constantly. So... A nice little Christmas present for me. Granted, I'm still waiting for *this* year's Christmas present, but... :P

As a spirit loving warlock, I weep over the amount of hot maces I can never have.
;-;
I also weep every time I'm chastised by a priest for having "healing" gear.
;-;

I'd like it if you could just throw all daggers, one handed axes, spears and harpoons. It'd be more realistic and handy at low levels for taking care of runners.
Camo Dec 27th 2009 4:35PM
What about not comparing the whole rogues and part of the hunters arsenal with a single spec of a hybrid please?
Krishy Dec 27th 2009 7:13PM
I would like librams to be visible while applying your seal, like in the TBC-trailer when that draenei flips through the pages of his libram and finds a suitable seal.
That would be insanely epic!

Call me crazy, but the situations listed for when to switch to a slow weapon as a prot warrior look all wrong to me. I think Mr Rossi must've been a little too festive over the last couple of days. ;)
Switching to a slow weapon when cleaving isn't right. Cleave is like heroic strike in that it adds flat damage to a swing, so while a slow weapon will give a bigger number per cleave than a fast weapon the fast weapon will add the bonus damage MORE TIMES and give better total damage done.
Also, swapping to a slow weapon is something to do when your rage bar is empty, not full! If you can't afford to be slamming out a heroic strike every 1.6 seconds, swap in a slow weapon and save rage by spamming it every 2.6s instead - the extra damage on those devastates will help make up for some of the damage/threat lost by cutting back on the heroic strikes. I used to use a 2.6s sword to help keep the damage going through the rage-drought when offtanking Patchwerk. It was effective enough that if I wasn't careful I'd become the "surprise maintank" because the pally who was meant to be maintanking didn't understand 96969...

I wish there'd be more RNG.
There, I said it.
psoanddeath Dec 28th 2009 3:57AM
Matt, you think more like me than I can shake...Enhance and prot, tanking fist weapons! Similar thoughts crossed my mind.
Drocket Dec 28th 2009 5:07AM
I've always wished that druids could dual-wield fist weapons. Why on earth are staves the standard feral weapon? We should be using fist weapons that represent our claws.
