Completion tracker and more from Wowhead

Wowhead has given us a few new features for holiday presents. The navigation tabs have been tweaked to showcase some of the features and pages they've been adding recently. There's also a super-cute wallpaper by Noxychu, featuring cartoon avatars of various Wowhead employees.
More interesting, however, is the Completion Tracker, which works with their profiler and client to track your characters' endless quest to 100%. Areas tracked include quests, mounts, pets, and recipes. It's still in beta, but it seems to be working fairly well. It also lets you exclude categories that you may not be working on.
The other feature that Wowhead added is one that I'm honestly not a fan of - the little "share" button at the bottom of blog posts. I know we have it on Wow.com as well, but I still think it would be better not to have it; people are perfectly competent to submit links to Digg or Facebook or whatever without you encouraging them to do it. That's just a personal opinion, though.

Love it. Helped a lot when I was going for all those 160 cooking recipes.
I really suggest this to anyone going for loremaster or anything. Also theres no need for addons that use 60mb all the time :P

I am mobile at the moment, so I cannot check the feature out right now. That being said, I hope that it ignores quests unique to other classes. That appears to be the largest issue with the tracking addons at the moment.

It ignores quests for the other classes.
Valt Dec 27th 2009 3:55PM
Yeah it does ignore other class quests. Not only that theres even different section for epic/raid things so it doesn't count all those MC etc quests that can be pesky.

About that Share-button... isn't that something you should discuss with the wow.com editor, rather than voicing your disagreement with how this website is run in public?
Or is that just a different cultural thing compared to how it would be done here in Sweden?

Pretty sure the writers here are allowed to express reasonable opinions without fear of reprisal.
I agree about the Share link. On this site, I find the pop-up extremely annoying and distracting. Needless to say, I was pleased when I found a simple way to disable it forever.

I find having an issue with the "share" link a little odd. It shortens by several clicks the process of posting it on your social networking site of choice, and (as is generally the idea) makes it more likely that someone would do so. I've never felt like posting an article from here on Facebook, but the presence of a link that would enable me to do so has never felt obtrusive or "pushy" in any way.

So Noxy had time to do a wallpaper, but not commissioned art that's been waiting for four months now? Nice.
Malgayne Dec 27th 2009 5:52PM
Be fair. The wallpaper was commissioned too, she is an actual Wowhead employee. Also, I understand that Sko cracked the whip on her and made her stay up all night to finish that one. :P

Yeah I came across this whilst I was off for Xmas, and its working wonders for me so far.....7 more left for loremaster of kalimdor, down from 13!

I just signed up and did the whole thing (and I am currently loading all of my played toons to it.) Why? Because THIS is what I have been wanting especially in regards to finally getting around to Loremaster, etc.

By the way, if you use the WoWhead looter it will list every character you own under your profile, unless you disable it for characters you don't want to show up in there. Just so you know, quite a few people got a tad upset about it - but the issue has been heard and they're apparently pondering an option to hide the characters from the webpage under the users own discretion.

I tried using this, but when I downloaded the Wowhead client, it seemed to go nuts and cause tons of add-on errors. It actually took me a while to find the culprit. I may give it another shot, because I love Wowhead, but it was discouraging to find it not working when I tried.
JustinM Dec 28th 2009 6:00PM
Yeah, I had the same problem. The addon errors were popping up in the oddest places, and then I noticed that one of the bug reports had Wowhead in it. I disabled the addon, reloaded, and no more errors.
I know it's in beta, so it's not a huge deal and I get that there will be problems, but you oughtn't announce beta versions of software on the main page of your website if you're not fairly certain it won't break things it shouldn't. (If it breaks itself, that's different.)
Malgayne Dec 28th 2009 10:12PM
Damn, I really thought we had that one. Working on it.

God I hate those share boxes. I constantly find myself accidentally mousing over them, and then when they pop up over whatever content I'm trying to read or watch they refuse to go away immediately.
Awful.

This has to be the one of the best and easy to use tools out there! I love the quest completion section and the "Find Upgrades" for the Gear Summary is wonderful for us casual players. Really helps me focus on what to work on next. Wowhead RULZ!

I've done everything that the instructions say to do, but the client stalls out for me at 2% uploaded (I've tried several times). Maybe reinstalling it will help.
Brune Dec 28th 2009 4:46AM
I downloaded the wowhead client earlier, and now I'm getting a "the information you have entered is not valid", i.e, I've been keylogged andmy password/battlenet stuff has been changed.
Could just be a coincidence, but I can't say I recommendgetting this.
QQinsider Dec 28th 2009 7:03AM
Yeah, it's so likely that wowhead is installing keyloggers on their user's PC's, I mean, no-one would notice right? Obviously it couldn't possibly be that porn/warez/hacks site you visited at some point, presumably while not using an up to date anti-virus.
People who don't have a clue should get an authenticator.
