and it's still wrong, even after the edit. But it's understandable, as it's a bit complicated since it's all dependent on the mobs changing. Explaining it in vent is even worse.

I agree, it's one of those fights, that really needs to be tried at least once until you really understand it.
It's vent-explanation proof.
My first try with a pug, we did alright, but had trouble in getting through the add phase quick enough to beat the enrage.
Second shot, it's much easier to understand, melee get the guys in the bubbles, ranged (magic, so no hunters, you stay on boss as another commenter pointed out) get the big hulks.
Either way, totally understandable that there's so much confusion on all ends.
