Welcome the new columnists and a call for more

Welcome Dawn Moore, our new Spiritual Guidance columnist. She will be covering all things holy and discipline. We were also delighted with the application of one Mr. Fox Van Allen and have hired him as our second Spiritual Guidance columnist, but he will be focusing exclusively on shadow priest topics. Believe me, he is as entertaining as his name implies. The priest column will run twice a week now, Sundays with Dawn and Wednesdays with Fox.
As for our new hunter columnist, it was close. Damn, it was close. But in the end a decision had to be made and Brian Wood aka Frostheim of the Warcraft Hunters Union has agreed to join us. You will be seeing his column soon.
And finally, we are calling out for even more columnists to join us! Details after the jump.
We are no longer accepting applications. We are currently reviewing the hundreds that have poured in. I will update this post when we have selected our new columnists. Thanks!

I'm glad you guys are splitting up the roles (healing vs. dps) into different authors. In my experience many of the hybrid columns display good control of one area but not the other. For example you might get a very detailed explanation of how to DPS with a certain character, with all sorts of veteran tips, but then get a very simple and basic description of tanking, when in reality there are lots of subtle things to pay attention to. As a long-time warrior tank, I have noticed this in Matt Rossi's column more than once.

Steak, here is your first piece of advice from a wow.com user:
Coren's Chromium Coaster and Mirror of Truth don't stack.
Here is your second:
As survival, you should be stacking agility in your gems, not attack power. kgogo dps!

Oh man, another chance! I was all set to take a stab at the Hunter position, but I chickened out because I'm just not that great of a player.
I would LOVE to write about the lore! I love reading the lore... I lie awake at night just going over WoW lore in my head for hours; it fascinates me to no end!
Now if only I can work up the courage... what a sweet gig!
And a huge CONGRATULATIONS to wow.com for being successful enough in this dismal economy to continue to hire new staff! This site continues to amaze me every day!
Alanid Jan 5th 2010 2:57PM
Same here, I love the lore and I know most of it off the top of my head, however I don't have the courage to send an app in... maybe I'll write one tomorrow, lol.
iammurlocftw Jan 5th 2010 4:52PM
Just remember, if your scared of trolls don't read the down voted ones.
Note: I'm not saying that all down voted posts are trolls, some are seen as trolling but aren't meaning to troll. Many down voted posts are however inappropriate/rude.
Alanid Jan 7th 2010 4:08PM
Nah, I just worry that I'll do something silly and make myself look like an idiot, lol.
Docp Jan 5th 2010 1:10PM
Damn, 4 extra columnists needed and still nothing that I can really apply for. Shame. I guess I'll carry on waiting and hoping.
However congratulations to Dawn, Fox and Brian. Here's hoping for some quality articles. NOW GET TO WORK
=D

Welcome to the new columnists and look forward to reading their submissions.
But I have one question. You mentioned getting some unbelievable (good and bad) applications. Perhaps you could give us some tidbits from them highlighting what to do or not do for an application to wow.com (no names required).
Adam Holisky Jan 5th 2010 1:21PM
It's entirely possible that we'll come out with some application examples the next time we do a general writer call out (ie: not specific columns we need filled).
As for specific examples of some of the crazy stuff we've received, well, even though it'd make a funny post, no can do. Too private. Sorry :(
outdps Jan 5th 2010 1:25PM
I dunno, Adam- you guys mentioned that you had a lot of applications to wade through. Maybe prefacing the LFM page with "if your app is silly/dumb enough, we'll post it on the site with your name edited out", you'd get a more manageable (and possibly higher average quality) stack of applications :P
Fenrix Jan 6th 2010 12:37AM
@outdps
Or instead you get a lot of applications trying to get published because they're silly...
Christopher Freeman Jan 5th 2010 1:12PM
Grats to Frostheim. I enjoy reading his posts at the hunters union and look forward to reading his here.
Now where did I put that giraffe?
outdps Jan 5th 2010 1:13PM
Huge grats to Frost on getting this! I, for one, would like to welcome our new dwarven gunslinger overlord.
