Are Bloodlust/Heroism drums incoming?

Is that going to change? A discussion on the forums leads to Ghostcrawler revealing that yes, they are considering allowing Bloodlust/Heroism be a buff one can gain through an item. Now, I'm torn. On the one hand, NO! Keep your filthy crafter fingers off of my precious! My precious! I'll kill you! I'll kill all of you! But on the other hand, it really isn't fair at this point that Bloodlust/Heroism is pretty much the only buff we can't get a lesser version of through crafted items. A 25% speed increase for 30 seconds (or even 35) would be weak enough in comparison to real Bloodlust that you wouldn't have to worry terribly about being replaced by a drum kit. I suppose. Man, I don't want you to have my Heroism. Like I said, I'm torn.
So what do you think oh why am I even asking we all know you want my precious. My precious!

Everybody better got out of the room. Things are going to start getting big around here...

I always thought it sounded more like "Blarglarglargl!" You know, like an Orc doing a Murloc impression.

I think it's about time. What makes shammies so special? I have a paladin, and I don't feel like I'm being replaced when someone uses the drums. I have a druid -- same. I have a priest -- same. When the raid leader invites me I know he wants the player, not the buffs.
If you're really worried about your buff being the only reason you get into a raid you have bigger issues to deal with.
Ziekara Jan 6th 2010 2:09PM
I agree. It seems like it's just another step in their "bring the player, not the class" mentality. If you're so worried about losing your spot because your raid buffs aren't special anymore, than you should spend your time looking for ways to improve your own personal set of skills instead of QQing.

The author was good humored about all this. He admitted (paraphrasing) that he's probably biased, and the small unbiased part of him agrees.
He's not worried about being replaced...that's just a little extra job security he'd lose. To be frank, Shaman are probably one of the classes that have the most right to be worried. It's not as bad as many of them would have you believe, but in a state of the classes address recently made by the president, the Shaman awareness color was changed from Yellow to Orange.

My big worry is foolish people using it at the wrong time and giving everyone a 10minute exhausted debuff. I can see this really annoying raid leaders, especially in pugs and battlegrounds.

But heroism isn't a comparable raid buff to kings/wisdom/might. Those are our totems. Heroism is an in-combat mechanic. Can any crafting professions duplicate rebirth?
Nazgûl Jan 6th 2010 2:39PM
No, but the issue is Bloodlust/Heroism has become such an integral part of player strategy. Rebirth is not "needed" to succeed, but players regard this critical shaman ability as requisite for success. As a result, Blizzard wants to make it available without a Shaman in the party.

I think you all need to look at the big picture. Instead of thinking of this as "us vs them" try looking at it from the raid leader's perspective. My ICC 10 raid consistently has no pally buffs. We bring the drums -- problem solved (at least for kings). A lesser bloodlust/heroism drum would be yet another tool in a raid leader's toolbox. When you get to the last 15% you want a haste buff. We all do. If you have no shammy in the raid it would be nice to have the OPTION.
I don't think it's about replacing shammies in raids. It's about supplementing those raids that have no shammy to start with. It's a little hard to balance an encounter and ASSUME the raid has the buff (when it may not).
jrizutko Jan 6th 2010 2:53PM
I don't have an objection to having another source of heroism. I have an objection to it coming from a profession. What other in-combat 10 minute cooldown powers are duplicated by professions?
Give it to rogues. I don't care. My progression raid usually has 2 Shamans in a 10-person group anyway. My spot isn't at risk because I'm the bearer of heroism.
snowleopard233 Jan 6th 2010 3:07PM
I’m not so much concerned about other people having my bonus as much as I am about the degree to which people feel they need to rely on this ability. God forbid if my heroism timer is still on cooldown when we need to do a boss. People freak out and think it can’t be done. You’d think no one’s ever done a raid or dungeon without a shaman before. In my opinion, every group should work to make the most out of the classes and buffs they have on hand rather than feeling particular spells or classes are necessary. That’s the community’s problem to fix, not Blizz’s.

Bloodlust is not comparable to MotW/BoK/Fort. 10s are not tuned for bloodlust.
BTPNTC is taken out of context many times. BTPNTC doesn't mean you can have whatever comp you want. It means bring skilled players that best fit your raid.
As an extension of this, the drums and scrolls were provided for stam buffs that were absolutely necessary to tanks. On the other hand, 10s are not tuned for bloodlust. Just because you see it as necessary, does not mean that it was designed to be necessary. If you need lust for 10s you might have a gear, skill, or make-up problem, but not a Bloodlust problem.
BigBadGooz Jan 6th 2010 3:10PM
Cause unless you are resto you don't get in a raid. I pull 6k dps but it stings when your lesser geared pally counterpart on a higher skill level reqierment punches 9k dps that is shammans issues. No heroism for you *slaps hands and takes soup bowl away* Now shamans bring some unique buffs but now every other class is now getting or beating our buffs strength of earth totem vs horn of winter for example. Boomkin buff overwrites elemental raid wide bufff is another. Right now it's go resto or roll something else. I love my shammy but our piece of the pie is getting smaller.

"I don't feel like I'm being replaced when someone uses the drums."
You may not feel like you are being replaced, but a lot do, for some reason.
You would not believe how many times my kings drums were replaced with the pallies buff. even when i say, "you can do might/wisdom, i have the drums".
Sometimes they even complain that they need that extra 2% that their buff gives. Really? You really need that 2%?. And they sometimes refuse to give me might because they already gave me kings. I'm never rude about it either.

Some people with inferiority complexes play WoW. Shocker, I know.

Everyone is ignoring the most significant thing GC said on this topic that makes the drums unnecessary.
The true power of bloodlust/heroism isn't the increased haste. It's the "GOGOGOGO" mindset that accompanies it. 40 seconds of 30% increased haste isn't really that big a buff in the long run, especially once every ten minutes. By itself, it is an average of maybe 3-5% increased DPS output, depending on fight length.
But when those 40 seconds coincide with EVERY OTHER PERSONAL DPS BUFF IN THE ENTIRE RAID, it is substantial. If you really want to see what sort of impact it has, go into a ten man raid without a shaman and say over vent "Lust is up!" and watch how many people blow cooldowns on instinct. It's a lot of fun, and the massive DPS increase people associate with bloodlust is really more from the STACKING of buffs than it is from the single haste buff.
If you NEED a bloodlust to beat an encounter, you're out of your league content-wise.
