I play a lock, I raid with mages and spriests (and of course, other locks). On 10 man ranged never really gets above 5k or 6k, I personally did 5.4k last time I was there and was thrilled. I'd recommend dpsing him as he whirls around (unless of course he is heading right at you) and making a macro that says "/tar bone" for the bone spikes, for faster switching.
