Man forced to choose between his wife and his orc

Much to the dismay of geeks everywhere, Cushnie's wife Dee wasn't comfortable sharing her home with a green-skinned orc and threatened to move back to her Canadian homeland if her husband didn't ditch the Horde Warchief. His wife reportedly said that there was "no room for (the orc) in our life," and Cushnie prudently chose Dee, whom he married in February 2009, over the huge statue. "I just don't like it," Dee said, "I'm only 5ft 3in, so it towers over me, which is quite creepy."
The statue was adopted by a couple in Aberdeen, Michael Thomson, 61, and his wife, Patricia, 55, who report that their 16-year old granddaughter is thrilled with the acquisition. "We wanted him because he's so unusual," said Patricia. Robert and Dee will move to Canada later this month sans the orc. "I'll miss him," Cushnie said, "but I'm glad he's gone to a good home." As this little episode proves, not even the most badass orc can mess with marital bliss!

This makes me sad. My husband and I are both gamers. We enjoy a lot of the same things and yet we have our own interests that the other really isn't into. For example he is a collection of smurf plushies while I have my own collection of Pokemon plushies. (Yes I'm over 25 :P) while I think the Smurfs are a bit odd and he thinks the same of mine, I wouldn't ask him to get rid of them just because they aren't my thing. I would feel the same way if it were a huge 7ft statue of Papa Smurf (or horde forbid Smurfette..) as long as there is actual ROOM in the house for so it no one is bumping into it or sitting in the middle of the floor and even then I'd try to make room for it because he likes it and that's what matters and he feels the same since I already have some very LARGE Pokemon plushies in the house :3 I wish I could meet this woman in person so I could smack her upside the head and ask why she could be such a selfish person. I would love to have Thrall sitting in my living room (bow-chika-wow-wow?)
Darque Jan 8th 2010 1:55PM
Agreed. 100%.
My bf and I are both into WoW, and have our own hobbies besides. I put up with his Transformers all over the house, he puts up with my dragon statues and plushes. Why? Because it's something that interests us and is part of who we are.
Sorry, but I'd have to agree that the wife is way out of line in this situation. Forcing him to give up his statue wasn't right :/
At least Thrall got a new home where he's appreciated (and wouldn't I love a statue like that here :D)

What a joke.
lolikitty Jan 8th 2010 1:25PM
So i take it she's alliance .... well let me tell you, Dee, you just made Jaina cry, hope you're proud.
Irem Jan 8th 2010 1:55PM
Hey, giving it to Jaina would be a great idea! I'm sure she can find a use for it.
>_>
Ongar Jan 8th 2010 2:15PM
I agree with Irem, giving it to Jaina is always a great idea. The last guy that did eventually became a King!
Irem Jan 8th 2010 2:19PM
I hope Thrall is taking notes, here.
MasterAsh Jan 9th 2010 1:00AM
@ Ongar
You almost made me spit out my beer! XD
Rich L. Jan 8th 2010 1:26PM
Hrm.. not even a nod to We Fly Spitfires for the story? And yet they acknowledged their source even though it was just in the comments of another blog.

Time for a divorce. A wife can be replaced. That Orc cannot.
But it's not about material possessions, it's about manipulative women who make selfish ultimatums.
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] Jan 8th 2010 1:31PM
Actually it seems Thrall is being replaced left and right these days.... :(
jealouspirate Jan 8th 2010 1:38PM
I hope you're joking. Even though the wife was in the wrong, it's not worth getting a divorce over. There are very few things that are.
People these days get divorced so easily. People need to learn to work things out through the tough times, but many just give up. The truth is you'll never find someone where there aren't tough times and disagreements, but it is possible to overcome them.
danawhitaker Jan 8th 2010 3:05PM
There's tough times, disagreements...and then there's ridiculously lame ultimatums. I'm a woman, and I'd consider that divorce-worthy, or darn near close. She wasn't interested in compromise, she threw down the gauntlet. I'd keep the statue, and tell her to take a hike. I've spent too many years watching male friends get trampled on by annoying women who act like that. You're better off alone than being with someone who won't accept you for who you are and compromise on a decoration in the house. If she's like that about a statue, what *else* is she unreasonable about?
RetPallyJil Jan 8th 2010 1:27PM
What a bitch. It isn't like he had it hidden in a closet oh, ALL THE TIME THEY WERE DATING, or something. The whiny little shrew probably wants to put a coat rack there or something.
Women like that embarrass our whole gender.
Cataca Jan 8th 2010 1:39PM
Ha! I can just see how something like that would have played out.
Girl: Oh, let me just put this in your closet.
::Girl opens door::
Guy: Nuuuuuu!
Girl:....What...the...
Guy: Uh...well, you see, uh, thats...thats my Orc, Thrall
Girl:...(Ugh, Why do I always find the freaks?)
GrumblyStuff Jan 8th 2010 1:57PM
You know... there was no mention where the statue was kept. I'd have to side with her if it was in the bedroom or something.
...at the foot of the bed watching.
lidstrom Jan 8th 2010 1:27PM
so she threatened to move back to canada if he didn't get rid of the orc.
so he got rid of the orc.
and now... they're moving back to canada.
hmm.
Deadly. Off. Topic. Jan 8th 2010 2:31PM
I think she meant that they wouldn't be together when she did move back to Canada.
Either way I think she needs counselling - you do NOT threatened to get your way in a relationship that is suppose to be between two people equally.
jealouspirate Jan 8th 2010 1:31PM
First Jaina, now this...
Thrall just really doesn't have a lot of luck with the ladies!
(P.S. The wife is being totally unreasonable, though I can imagine mine restricting it to an area that isn't right out in the open for all the neighbours to see)
Cataca Jan 8th 2010 1:32PM
If I can't have Thrall then you can't have those embroidery towels hanging in the bath room that you wont even let me use!!
